Default New Twin Turbo V6 for Supercars Tested

Triple Eight Race Engineering finished their first track test on the new V6 twin turbo engine. Its currently shoehorned into their Holden Commodore sportswagon show car, nicknamed The Sandman. A video has been released, showing Craig Lowndes behind the wheel and the twin turbo V6 making all the right noises.

Roland Danes, the owner of the team, praised the sound of the new V6 engine, saying it adds another layer of aural drama and excitement. If you had 26 of those on the grid not necessarily all Holden engines, but a mixture of V6 turbos you wont miss a V8 for a second, I promise you. And the hissing and wheezing and banging in the corners is great, commented Dane to Fox Sports.

The new twin turbo V6 will be entered in a number of wildcard races in 2018, with a full season entry planned for 2019. Currently, Holden is the only manufacturer to confirm an engine built to the new Supercars regulations.

I appreciate your sponsorship of the website but I've only just returned home from watching it test at Queensland Raceway where it was on track at the same time as a number of V8's including some Supercars, Ferraris and Touring Car Masters. While it doesn't sound as horrible as I expected there's no way it sounded as good as any of that company, even the Aussie Racing Cars circulating probably sounded better to my ears.

It basically sounded like a noisy V6 Commodore (not wet fart bad like some of them) with a few hisses in corners but certainly quieter than most of the cars on track. Roland Dane was standing about five feet away from me at one stage but I didn't have the heart to be negative and say to him "I thought you said these things were going to sound good and we wouldn't miss the V8's"

A young bloke standing near me said "it sounds sick", I confirmed with him sick as in good so each to their own I guess.

.. it sounds like a gearbox (and not a race car)

now maybe if they refrain from having in car cameras......

Here's some footage from today from the V8SC website, it sounds pretty much like this. Immortality, I'll be curious to hear your thoughts but I reckon I can predict them.

Must say sounds better than most v6 commodores, usually sound like a flat fart, 2 extra pots would sound even better though.
