    Default 5.7 mercruiser issue?

Hi guys.... i have recently purchased a 06 matrix sorrento. It has the 5.7 efi mercruiser. I have had it a little over 2 months now and used it half a dozen times. Each time at some point it has run really rough like its misfiring then it will come good. So far i have replaced the dizzy cap as that was pretty corroded..new rotor, all new plugs and crank positioning sensor. Leads were new as they were just replaced when i bought it. It only seems to happen when its under load and the boat is loaded with ballast and people. But it comes and goes at random. Wont go over 20mph. It idles really smooth and throttle response while in neutral is crisp. Any suggestions? This is my first efi so im bit stumped as to what to try next. Fuel maybe?? Any pointers where i can start looking would be great. Thanks.

Did you get this issue sorted?
Dizzy cap and rotor was my first thought as it's quite common but you've already replaced them...
Couldn't hurt to replace the fuel filter anyway, at least then you know when it was done.

Howdy.... no the problem is still there but it comes and goes. I took the fuel filter off and blew it out with a compressor but i havnt had it back out on the water yet. Hopefully next weekend i can load the boat back up again with ballast and people as it only seems to do it when there is weight in the boat. Thanks for the reply.

Have you checked the ignition module, I seem to remember that a few merc's had probs with the modules, causing stalling and bad running.

I havnt checked the ignition module. It has never stalled on me at all... it just runs rough. It then just clears itself and goes away. It very random which makes it so hard to fix. Thanks for the replies.

I would still check the module, the problem happening when the engine is under heavy load seems to suggest a heat soak issue. I had a quick google and lots of reports of problems with the ignition module, many similar to what you are experiencing. Not sure if yours is an in dizzy or external module but either way its probably worth ruling it out as a problem and also check your coil too.
