    Default 308 WHAT DIZZY Set-UP ????

Hey guys.....finally got myself another ski boat after 17yrs out of the sport. Kids are stocked and we cant wait to hit the water. Due to 4 kids couldn't afford a nice new Lewis or Stephens and ended up with a Flightcraft Phantom SS. Fitted with a 308 that seems pretty stock. The father in-law helped me out with a fuel supply issue and ended up taking off the Holley 650 which was pretty tired and putting on his Edelbrock 500cfm which was meant for his latest hotrod !!!! (pretty happy with that one as the edelbrock is polished HAHAHAHH) ....any how I have an issue with the engine giving a pinging or rattly sound when pushed over 3500 rpm. As it is an older boa and motor I plan to start tidying it up and was going to put in a new dizzy and leads. The wife has the purse strings fairly tight so have to be budget conscious and was thinking of a ProComp HEI dizzy and leads. Can anyone give me feedback or opinions on going this way ??

Thanks tuf........currently the carby is a 500cfm Edelbrock. Supposedly this should run a 308 no worries at all. I was thinking the rattling may be ignition to far advancing on high revs. Can I tell the difference in sound if it needs more fuel by bigger jets ???

    Thanks

Have you put a timing light on it to see what the advance curve is doing?

Hi Ski,,,,yep. father inlaw helped out and we could see the timing marks advance around an extra 50mm or so when rpm's brought up to 3000

You've established that it's advancing but what's it advancing to....in degrees?

Hey Ski,,,,I head home on thurs morning and after spending the last few nights browsing these posts I am going to use your trick I found where u explained how to get TDC mark and it and measure the flywheel and do the math to mark out the degree of advance..(printed that one out).
My flywheel has 2 white lines and the housing has 3 so at this stage i dont know what is what as I only bought the boat about 2 mths back.
