    Default 1972 Ramsay Rebel Restoration

Hey guys thought some of you that are into boats might like this.
Im Brett Ramsay, my grandfather is Les Ramsay who built all of the Ramsay ski boats through the 70,s 80,s and 90,s.
We got a phone call from a guy a few months ago asking if we would mind having a look at a boat he was wanting to sell, and if we could come and have a look and let him know what its worth.
This is what we found, a 1972 Ramsay Rebel with an original 200 hrs from new. To put it in car terms its like finding a 72 model HQ or torana with 12,000 kms (average speed of 60 k's).

We pulled the boat apart, gave everything a good clean. Gave the motor a paint up and carb rebuild kit. Hows this though, still had the factory fitted spark plug leads from 1972!

    enjoy

    Hey bauchy!
lake eildon in the background mate. Nice view from my parents place!
Just due to the boat being so original we want to leave everything as it was from the factory

How is that boat you were doing when we last spoke coming along?
Not for sale as yet, but who knows in the future.

yep nice view for sure, my boats taking allot longer then i ever planned due to buisness taking up all my time. its on the water now with a few teething issues so once thats sorted it will be nice. just running a 355 holden which is more then enough grunt in the hull. later in the year ill probably buy something like an everingham and get away from the woodys, be nice to have a boat that doesnt leak so much,

    hows the racing been going??

Nice rebel! i have memories from my childhood of going skiing with my dads mates who owned a rebel named "reality" it was an amazing looking boat in candy flake red white and blue, id love to own one one day.

funny thing is this thread made me do a google search to see if i could find what happend to that boat and i found it! a little worse for wear and faded but its the boat i remember, just a shame im not in a position to buy it .

Racing is going good bauchy, couldnt get the support from the club i did it with to run another meeting at nillahcootie unfortunatly. Had so many phone calls asking if it was happening again! Thanks again with your support with it!
Haha yeah a timber boat with that sort of HP would be interesting! You were looking at doing a twin turbo setup at one stage correct?

180sc that rebel has been on ebay for 6900 for a couple of weeks. I reakon if you gave them a call you would get it in the high $5000's if that was to help the cause! Would just want to check it doesnt have any dry rotthrough bearers or transom.

I love seeing old school ski boats being restored and brought back to their former glory, and that Rebel is just awesome!

Brett, were any Rebel's built as a rear mount? Was there different engine options?
Would you have any old photos showing different stages of the build process that you could post up?
    Cheers

    Hey Brett,

My uncle bought a brand new Nankervis boat in the mid 70's, it looks a hell of a lot like this. do ya know if nankers built their own hulls? or they out sourced the hull, but fitted them out in house? His boat had a very similar interior and instrument lay out.

PS the one in the pics is stunning.

Thanks for the comments, had a feeling some of the car guys that are into boats might appriciate it!
Nankervia did build their own boats that were very simular. When the rebel became so popular couple of companys followed in my pops footsteps in building boats with the same look and features.
Rebels were not built as a rear mount although a couple of the other models were being the "cheeta" and the "sports k".
Havent got any photos of the build process on the old boats but do have a heap of photos of my 82 year old pop making patterns and building our new circuit race boat. They are on facebook if you add "Ramsay Boats", there are also a truck load of old photos of all the models of boats.
    cheers!
    Brett

hey brett, gl;ad the racing is going well. ill have to get out again for another look. at the moment the twin turbo is on the back burner. all the parts are there so it just needs to be put together but i dont think i need it in the clinker to be honest, the 355 is enough. been a huge job and lots left to do but ill run 60 mile with it next season. heres me first run

Hi mate, that looks awesome. I just recently bought a 1970? model off boatsales. A mustard one with 308. Just had to get the motor rebuilt.
Still had the original pistons n tin gaskets!!!!
Would be great to get in touch to see what parts you have available? Love these boats, get heaps off attention at the Dam when we roll up with it still with the canvas cover!
