Stroker crank 3.48-3.75”
What would you be prepared to pay for 2nd hand scat / come ductile iron crank to suit street driven car
Whether it for 355” or 383” holden
If crank was on std and just needed polish to get ready

May have gone up in price since I got mine for $500. You might get a good one for $1or 200 less than list. Check for mallory in the front counterweight. May have to be altered for balancing.

VPW in Melbourne sell SCAT 355 cranks for $600 ($602.58 to be exact)
Luke Schiller who sells lots of SCAT and Edelbrock engine parts is about $600-625 posted to your door.
Personally, I’d just buy a new one unless you definitely know the history on this second hand crank and providing it only needs a polish.
The amount of second hand cranks that I’ve seen that need a grind soon makes them cost more that a new one.
As for balancing, most SCAT 355 Holden V8 SBC journal cranks that are used with 5.7” rods and 1.425 pin height pistons need a slug of Mallory.
The last two 355’s I did with a SCAT 355 SBC journal crank, 6” I beams and 1.125 pin height pistons didn’t need any Mallory and balanced up mint.
In saying that, the newer SCAT 355 SBC journal cranks have bigger counterweights and possibly may not need Mallory….
Maybe one of the pro’s or someone that has used one recently may have the answer.

Thanks for comments
I’m stuck in a hole with vn block
Not sure whether to throw the 304 together or upgrade to 3.48 or 3.75” stroke
However not sure about using ductile iron crank without knowing the history
If it was Steel wouldn’t think twice about it
Has anyone used the scat steel 4340 3.75” crank 2” dia BE journals ?
As time you purchase come 3.75” stroke ductile iron you could have scat 4340 steel crank

How much power are you after?
What’s the car going to be used for?
Really depends on these things and more, not to mention budget….
If you are after a genuine 450-500HP street car that visits the strip every now and then just stick with a 355 (3.48”) SCAT/COME cast crank set up and 2 bolt mains with 7/16 ARP studs.
If you are going to go big dollar steel crank, then you are mad if you don’t get the block converted to 4 bolt mains.

the car will be street driven and few skids, its not a race car
have the 304 ready to put together, blockwork already done oil galleries plugged, taped and opened up
using std bore hone just honed to clean up as engine was sitting for a long time
0.025" deck, flat tops and VN rods, original 0/0 3.025" stroke crank
have 2 Hydraulic rollers: 220/ 0.520", and 232/ 0.595" @0.050",
morel HR lifters
keeping VN heads and upgrade springs, retainers, and adjustable rockers
forward facing twin throttle body fabricated efi (65-70mm dia, need to check its been sitting there a while), plus the original banana manifold that came with it
Will stay with Delco and get a tune
I can see the benefit of power/torques with more cubic inches in software program
running T700
2500-3000 convertor (as have 2 of them there)
3.7 " LSD
have been playing with Dyno simulation and cam selection with variety of cams
304: 300hp
355: 350hp +
Haven't got a budget in mind, or HP, just want it to move when pedal is mashed, and it needs to have manners, and be drivable for the wife if she want to go have a drive
I like the 6L80E behind the 6.0 litre VF for drivability, and thought it would be nice to put tranny behind the 304/355/383, however don't know whether it will achieve much as gears are already 3.7
I suppose just need to make decision which route and then finish building the engine and move forward

Looks like I’m heading to 3.48” stroke
Picked up a set of scat h-beam rods 5.627” (holden) with arp2000 bolt upgrade
- So on the hunt for scat crank( holden )ductile iron/ 9000, seem to be approx $650
- most probably not much merit in dropping another $1100 for steel crank assuming they are offered with holden journal ?
- forged piston to suit 1.5 CH
My block has been decked
Is there much difference in having to make clearance the VN block to suit H-beam rods as opposed to I-beam ?
My 4” bore has cleaned up on standard so trying not to bore it out of don’t have to
On hunt for sone standard piston which seem difficult to get

In standard form they are the same as far as critical dimensions are concerned. Given the age of these engines you're unlikely to know the full history of them so you'll need to measure things...
