Trimatic bleeding out vent
Hi guys i have a problem with the freshly rebuilt Trimatic in me VK wagon, in that after firing up and running the 308,
the trans starts to weep out the vent tube in the top of the trans case, have had the box out at least a couple of times to try to sort the prob but it still persists.
Have checked the fluid level and is fine and have checked to make sure the cooler lines are not blocked and all is good there,so we are at a loss as to why the bugger is doing it, so any help would be great thanks!

Transmission side of the Bell housing could be warped.

Not familiar with the insides of the Traumatic, but some transmissions have a plate/deflector in front of the vent to deflect fluid from getting in. If used, could it be missing?

As EH mentioned, its either that or you have a mis-matched dipstick and tube in it.
If its a standard pan, you can drain it if you have a drain plug or drop the pan to get the oil out and refit. Then add 2.5 litres and the level will be correct.
Confirm if the dipstick is correct at the same time.

Ok thanks heaps for the replies fellas, it has a big aeroflow alloy sump on it, you mention about the dipstick and yeah it does have the wrong one.
I couldnt find an original one to go on it so just used a VT v6 locking type so ill give that the boot and pinch the proper one from the Wifes WB.

In standard form they are the same as far as critical dimensions are concerned. Given the age of these engines you're unlikely to know the full history of them so you'll need to measure things...
