Default Holden vk ss group a

    G'day

Have a quick question for holden nuts did the original vk ss group a brock commodore come with the holden vk sl interior light or was it based on previous sle models where it had the interior light encased in a chrome cover with 2 map lights which could be switched on and off similar to the vc sle?

    Cheers

Yep they had sle/calais interior light

Door trims were vinyl, sliding lock buttons not pop ups like 84 models...material on bottom & door pocket.

High rise console no power pirrors/window switches

Those are 3 major things people get wrong with replicas apart from unavailable larger sized momo monte carlo & correct horn button.

84 models had pop up locks & 5 litres so you'll see vk ss with them...85 models are sliding locks.

Not sure when they went to 4.9ltr but assume it was for racing homoglation & probably when group a was released.

Other thing people mess up is radio...for amount of money people spend to build replica it's surprising how most are easy to spot as fakes/replica.

Worked on a lot of them & several mates owned them back in 90's when they were cheap...later on we all built replica or 2 after Brocky died the interest & value oof them increased.

So an early 84 model should have pop up door locks a sle or calais map + interior lights and the eurovox radio... .

Sliders are standard on sle/calais then in 85 all other models got them.

Brocks have sle/calais interior lights...only Directors lights in back obviously being based on Calais.

Radio differs on model level so calais/director will have toggle & vk ss should have turn dial on it.

I've heard of some cars with late 84 build date from Holden & rolled out of HDT with 85 tag when finished

Before vk ss etc there was very basic LM5000 basically silver or white with Irmscher wheels,vh rear spoiler iirc...don't think they had sle/calais armrest just short base version

Vk brocks all HDT build tags...vh range didn't unless owner took car back or applied for them

Small things are different depending on what car is meant to be or copying like Director,Group 3,GRP A/3 or SL Group A

Looking at genuine Brock or just replica?

GMHolden production option pack for VK SL models 'A9L'... commonly known as the 'blue meanie' was approved for production on 1/3/85 according to then GMH Engineering Bulletin I have
The 'A9L' option included the new LV2 (aka 4.9lt) engine .. which was released for use in all then VK models at Aug'84. At that time, the previous hot fuel handling feature from V5H hipo
engines (used by RTA, police and HDT) became standard on all LV2 engines... even the bog standard ones

Also, I have another engineering bulletin for the door lock system... it shows the introduction of the 'slide lock' system from June 1985

Damn for some reason always thought sliders started in 85...all the 85 models we worked on,inspected or owned had it & liked the cleaner look of them more like in higher spec cars.

Last vk exec I bought when you could still get them cheap is an 84...hate the pop ups but good condition asteroid silver shell & blue trim inside so very good base for ss replica
