Default Trimatic kickdown cable with Holley Carb.

    Hi Guys,

I recently changed my standard 304 manifold to to Torque Power and fitted a Holley 650 double pumper.

the issue I am now facing is there is a kickdown cable that runs from the trans to the throttle bracket on the carby but there is no where to mount it and it appears too short.

Anyone ran into a similar issue and or know how to get around this problem? Are these cable adjustable as it seems like a fixed setup?

    Cheers,

    Winx

Not enough info mate, what trans, what car, what 304 manifold.
What has happened to the original brackets ?
Are we talking EFI to carb conversion ?

I would have guessed he's talking about a T700 & had removed the bunch of bananas and fitted a carb? but the mention of the cable being too short sounds more like a Trimatic cable than a T700 one, the T700 one would more likely have too much length given they connected to the throttle body up front. If it really is a Trimatic the cable was originally connected to the throttle linkage on the firewall and would likely be too short to reach the carb.

A cable kickdown Trimatic is pretty rare, in V8 form they only came in HG 253s & 308s.

It could be, I thought T700 being the original VN-VP 304 gearbox.

I still think the fact he mentions Trimatic in the title and that the cable is too short to reach the carb means he has a rare HG trimatic. A T350 cable would easily reach the carb.

I reckon you are more than likely right. Still waiting on op verification of details.

I know it's talking sbc not Holden, but my th350 cable was too short to work on the taller than std Super Victor and needed to get a universal one.

The Trimatic series 1 cable never went to the carb.
Its on a bracket on the firewall and actuated off the mechanical linkage.

It's barely long enough to reach the dissy.

If it's a 700 the trans will be be dead by now and if its a 350, you can live without it for the time being.

If it's a cable modulator set up then its a whole lot of trouble coming his way.

Hi Guys, thanks for the quick responses and sorry for the lack of detail.... As HQ308 pointed out in the title, it is a Trimatic with a 650 Holley carb setup....

Its a 304 black motor and Trimatic trans that came out of a VL commodore and is now fitted in a LX Torana. The cable comes out of the auto, runs up between the firewall and the motor (next to the trans dipstick) then it runs around the front of the motor and back to the carby alongside the accelerator cable.

It was originally mounted on a bracket that was bolted to the front of the manifold and then connected to a linkage on the quadrajet carbie that has since been removed.

There is no issues fitting a linkage to the holley, but the issue is finding somewhere to mount the origional bracket and ensure the length is correct....

I will try and get some photos to make it easier to understand! Just need to work out how to load them on here!!!

    Hopefully these pics work!

    cheers,

    Winx.

Below is a TH350 set-up so the cable is different.

Maybe something similar is possible for the trans and cable you have?

I was told it was a "Trimatic" but if its a TH350 then I would not be complaining.... still got the same issue though!

I edited my post above with the pic to make it clearer that yours may not necessarily be a TH350 but maybe the cable attachment arrangement could be a possible method for attachment for yours.

Just jacked up the car and on the driver side of the auto it has the following printed in the cast: MD8 and 26 in big letters near the dipstick as well as 8642547-2

on the passenger side it has 8676358 in the casting....

    Pretty sure its a trimatic.
