Default Pulling out 308(with trans OR not??)

    Hi Guys,
My engine has to come out due to no compression in number 2 cylinder. Guess I have a broken ring or piston, etc? Was getting dipstick blowing out oil!
So time to pull out engine OR are there other options ? A mate has a camera that can go down bore with Bluetooth to phone, but I'm imagining its a serious problem and needs to come out. Just wondered if it's easier to pull out trans with engine rather than trying to re-align later with install? I will be using an engine crane not a hoist. Car is a Kingswood with Trimatic trans.

    Cheers

Personally I would just pull the engine out.

    hi
No factory air yes u can pull both together . BUT I have found its only possible when there are no front panels . I installed my TH400 and v8 this way .

    In service
under vehicle remove inspection cover , disconnect torque convertor bolts ,exhaust ,engine mount bolts ,bell housing bolts , str mtr
rotate and push convertor away from flex plate . It will fall out if not done .

engine bay remove distributor to access bell housing bolts and all the other misc. stuff

    remove radiator
    support trans with jack
    lift out engine

Like swampy said, if the car is complete pull engine out by itself. If you want to remove engine & trans together, remove the front apron and radiator support.

    hi
With no factory air both could be pulled together if u had an overhead gantry crane but with a typical engine crane not gunna happen . Standard engine cranes cannot lift high enough as the trans and motor are near vertical . At least my experiences.

Ever wonder why factory air is so damaged . U need to pull the LH valve cover .

I must have been doing something for the last 25 years because I've never had an issue except that the crane legs wont fit under the LCA's so another jack is needed under the x-member until some weight is removed from it and you need someone who isnt an idiot to help take the bonnet off.

I don't even take the bonnet off anymore but it does have a hole in it that the crane clears nicely at full height.

Its a 30 minute job on my own once everything is unbolted.
