.. the OEM EFI factory ones have no sealant
and the various cars with EFI VN headed 308s I had did not leak
    so maybe try them

I always had trouble sealing the factory covers on my old VT, I tried both paper & rubber gaskets. On my HQ (with VN heads) I have aftermarket fabricated covers and they seal with whatever gasket I put on them. Had paper ones to start with but needed to replace them after having the covers off a few times so I got some blue neoprene ones and they seal good too. I never really got to the bottom of it with my VT but my theory is the factory covers possibly warp over time, making it hard to seal them.

I put a straight edge on my covers and they seem to be ok.
Iíll try another set of gaskets and hope for the best

Definitely the factory covers at fault. Had same issues with them for years trying different gaskets ect.
Covers were machined and still leaked.
Got some aluminium sheetmetal ones and never an issue since.

There are two places they can leak: between the gasket & r/cover, between gasket & head...or both.

I always silicon the gasket to the cover. That reduces the leak risk by 50%...
