Last time I did this I made one up myself using balustrade wire from the hardware shop. It came in a kit with ends and I just fiddled around until I got the range of movement I needed. It took a little bit of trial and error but you don’t have to cut the wire until you’re happy as you can temporarily clamp it using the supplied fittings.

From factory, they run a linkage set up.
You can still buy them as reproductions on ebay and the like.
Rare spares probably sell them as well.
I usually throw them in the bin when I come across them, people say they are worth big money but I cant sell them for $50 so go figure.

Yep, I’ve got a pile of stuff that I’ve “saved” but to most people it’s probably junk. When I’m gone I’m pretty sure most of it will be sent to the tip. I’ve still got stuff like some tools and the original spare blanks for the rollers used by my grandfather to make the line marking machines for the ‘56 Melbourne Olympics, which is probably meaningless to anyone except me.

Here though I was just talking about the cable and gathered from the original post that the remainder of the mechanism was in place. I often end up fabricating bits and pieces because of the rigmarole of ordering parts, many of which require modifications to work anyway.

The only cables were on some of the "T" bar shifters from the Statesman.
Column shift were all linkage unless aftermarket.

Yep, but I thought, though I could be wrong, that our friend here is putting together his own setup out of bits and pieces that he’s brought together. Which is what I’ve done in the past too.

It can be a bit tricky to get the lever and linkage lengths correct but it is possible to operate with cables.

He's got half the stuff, just needs the linkages.
factory stuff is easy to get, most of the wreckers here are selling the reproduction stuff.
I'd stick with factory linkages, simple and nothing to go wrong.

I can provide any measurements if required.

I think you'll find he's only talking about the indicator that shows the shifter position, its a little box with a needle that sits above the column in the dash and is controlled by a tiny cable (almost just a string).
