Harrop V chinawinder.
Haven't had a decent intake arguement for a while so here goes.
Future build, have most of the parts including an ugly (new) chinawinder (redline copy) single plane that I planned on doing a bit of grinding on/in to make it decent.
Basic combo is 5L, 650dp, 286ish hyd F/T cam, 10:1 comp, cleaned up VN heads, in a manual VH Commo. Aiming for 300-350 hp.
Can't stop thinking that a decent dual plane will be much nicer to drive on the street. Actual performance difference would be negligible I would guess, so not really a concern. More about street manners.
No high rises allowed as it must go under bonnet without fuss.
Years ago switched from a performer to a torker on my old hotty 308 and always thought it wasn't a great move.
Dual plane for VN heads aint cheap but my performer, torker and chinawinder could just about pay for it. Thoughts?

I have a similar combo to what you're planning, std stroke 308, flat tops 10.2 comp small SFT cam and a 750dp. I've got an Edelbrock Performer Air Gap and I'm pretty happy with it. On a chassis dyno when I had Fitech EFI on it it made 282hp@6200rpm at the tyres and ran 13.3 @ 100mph. Changed back to a carb and picked up a little over 3mph (13.3 @103.5)
If you do decide to go for an Edelbrock don't leave it too long. Edlebrock is in the process of shutting down all it's operations in California and moving it to another state, they say the foundry will be out of action for ~3 months. Even when they are back on line small run stuff like Holden manifolds will most likely get pushed to the back of the queue.

Ok cheers for that. Nah it will be either the harrop dual or the T/P low dual or stick with the low rise single I already have. Doubt the Eddy air gap would go under the sloped early commo bonnet anyway.

My chinawinder has been fine. I just radiused the edges of the top turn into the runners. Didn’t need to face the manifold or anything.
Going forward I will still be fitting a TP or edelbrock single plain.

Occasionally used Harrop DP manifolds turn up on trademe from the old NZV8's when they still ran the 304 motors.

Dunno how high the Performer Air Gap is but Redline Hi-winder + 1' spacer + dropbase 4" filter leaves about 5mm clearance to bonnet on a VC.
Presumably Performer Air Gap without spacer would be the same height?

Jeez, for 300-350 hp, a '955 factory manifold would do.

The air gap must be a bit higher than the Redline, I can run either a 1" spacer and a 3" drop base or no spacer and a 4" drop base in my HQ. It's nearly an inch taller than the Weiand single plane I had with early heads. I was lead to believe early Commodore had less bonnet clearance than HQ?
