Glovebox lid stuck
The glovebox lid on me VK is being a bitch and refuses to open.
Tried locking/unlocking/ wiggling/punching/swearing and still nothing.
Anyone got any tricks, as i'm thinking i will damage it if i keep trying or do i just get a Locksmith?
Thanks.

... never heard of them failing (the catch that is)
but anyhow
maybe a way to open it, is to push the plastic pin (which acts as the RH pivot)
back into the glovebox itself (from under the dash) see pic...
yes, you might need to remove the console, under dash cover etc
but worth a look
ps... GM do not call them a glovebox
it is an 'instrument panel compartment'

Try a little squirt of Inox in the barrel. Slide the key in and out so the Inox lubricates the wafers inside the barrel.
There may be something in your glove box putting pressure on the door.
Push the glove box in a little while trying to unlock with the key.

Thanks for the responses guys, especially the diagram Smitty.
Marras, i don't believe it's a lubrication problem as the spring loaded thingy on the left side of the lock is ...well..no longer spring loaded.
I don't wish to damage it in any way, as a second hand one will cost me about half my superannuation, going off prices being asked these days.
Thanks again.

Can you drill it out if all else fails?

.. had another thought!
if you cannot access the pivot pin from under the dash (to push it back into the glovebox)
then
do you have a thin fret saw or similar? a small hand saw with a 1mm or so thick blade
maybe you could cut the plastic pivot pin (and yes you would need to get another)
available here..

also 4blok have them.. $28 (!) each__________________________________

Did you get it open EH?
Had mine in the VC get a little sticky once or twice. Might need to know the technique one day.
