Is it me or is second hand getting expensive?
Surely has gone mad but there is some solace in not much of the high asking price items posted on this thread have sold and some even having price reductions. Almost all items in post 1 are still available ( the guy with the rusty 308 block has charitably dropped the price to $1200 but the guys with the heads and bbc intake refuse to budge). As I said in an earlier post, I’d rather have some money in my pocket than something no longer wanted or needed in my possession gathering dust

dunno about 2nd hand getting exxie
but
phark me, some are getting rich off us car enthusiasts!
Have a Quaddie to fix .. needs a top cover gasket and needle/seat assembly
Mid last year, the gasket was $8 and the needle/seat $34.99 from an Australian parts seller
Today.. the same seller has quoted me $89.90 (!) for just the needle/seat assembly
I was too gobsmacked to ask about the gasket...__________________________________

I needed just one Holley metering block gasket and one Holley bowl gasket a couple of years ago. Local Autobarn had them to get me out of trouble, the crappy old brown full on stick (opposite of blue non stick) and cost me something like 45 bucks.

Welcome to Oz & the rip offs!
I emailed my local federal MP [ a Liberal, with a Lib govt in Canberra ] a few years ago with examples of rip offs in the auto repair industry that filters through the economy & raises prices for all concerned, but particularly for the end user. I cited a few examples, one of which was: how could a cartridge of hi temp silicon cost $57 at Repco when the same sil is $9.95 in the US. Needless to say, blue ribbon seat, no reply.

getting used to that .... NOT!
Same hi-flow needle seat assy from one of 3 USA sellers (I have used in the past)
buying online .. USD $ was 19.99, 21.99 and 21.95 plus estimated one week shipping
time using USPS.
With that price of 89.90 above NOT including postage (AustPost parcel post quote is 13.95 to me)
I have paid USD$33 (inc shipping) for one . Oh .... and USD$8 for a gasket from the US seller
Total USD $41 to me ... or $55 AUD charged to my card.
Damn sight cheaper than 89.90+13.95 or $104! if bought hereLast edited by Smitty2; 03-02-2021 at 06:08 PM.

It's a tough one guys. We would all love to support local and buy Aussie when possible but what do you do when faced with examples like Geoff and Smitty stated above? I buy a lot of small parts from Summit I am not in a hurry for* because they can land at my door cheaper or at least very close to prices here with a range no Aussie retailer has.
* edit, not unusual for Summit deliveries being same timeframe as Aussie suppliers.

The VC Brock over here is down from 300k to a much more realistic 265K now. He must be getting desperate.

hi
Jegs and Summit are not always cheap. In actual fact there prices I would consider MAX RETAIL. Internet is not as cheap as it was many years ago .15++yrs ago .
As it goes found the fans [Spal 1800cfm 13 inch] after I had bought my Davis craig HP14 1500cfm . Dam !!!
Caution sizes for fans is deceiving the Spal is 340/360mm Davies craig is 348mm/348mm
Perfect sizings for Aussie cars
The Spal fan is available at about 320$ ozzy if u look but the Davies are half the cost 120---150$ in ozzyLast edited by swampy; 04-02-2021 at 12:02 AM.

Another curious one. Namely the description and final statement

I won’t be responding to messages asking if car is still available if add is up it still is.
Genuine vh ss xv2. Genuine 253 car but I’ve been told it’s got a 308.
Back seats need retrimming paint is ok but if you’re fussy will need a respray no books
NOT NEGOTIABLE ON PRICE. NO OFFERS OR SWAPS. 55k if not gone by the weekend it’s going back in storage. NOT NEGOTIABLE SO DONT BOTHER ASKING.
