I am going to tell you guys a story that will make you cry in all sorts of manner.

I had a two HZ holdens at one stage in the early 2000’s. One a manual on the tree six Kingswood SL p/steer that a family member of the original owner sold me for $3000. Very original and even had the owners manual, color chart and pollution service info brochure in the glovebox that I still have. Valencia orange with a white roof. The other was an HZ Premier, 308 TH400 air cond p/steer. Completely factory spec except reasonably fresh two pack Atlantis blue paint, original down to AM push button radio and all stickers under the bonnet. I still have the original hubcaps. That set me back all of $5000 back in ‘04. I was in the process of painting the Monaro and rebuilding its engine at the time too. The Premier had the Monaro’s Convo Pro’s on and looked smick.

The blue HZ was an awesome car and it became my daily driver. I lived in Port Macquarie at the time and worked in one of the small towns on the way to Kempsey on the Pacific highway. On the way home from work one rainy afternoon a mid sized TNT transport truck forgot a delivery and u turned on the highway in front of me. I hit it square on writing off my immaculate Premier, knocking me out as my head was split open on the steering wheel and seatbelt busting a couple of ribs. Other than that I was super lucky. I got salvage rights for the car plus from memory $5000 insurance payout.

Except for broken accessories (p/steering, alternator and bracketry) and where one of the starter motor bolts go the engine checked out ok and I rebuilt it. Transmission not so lucky as the tail shaft jammed so hard into the internals damage was done. Another TH400 was purchased. Salisbury diff was bent, got another of those too. Interior was unaffected.

So what did I do? Valencia orange HZ got itself some upgrades. Fresh mild 308, TH400 and Salisbury diff and full Premier interior and Convo Pro’s. I also had it resprayed top to bottom in DeBeers two pack Valencia orange. Not by me as I didn’t have anywhere to do it at the time. This became my daily driver for a few years. It was about 2012 my in-laws offered us their 2005 LS1 Calais they purchased new. 75k on the clock for $8000. The missus and I took up the offer, that became her daily driver and I got her 2001 Statesman. The HZ that now had rust in every panel from the dodgy paint job I paid a professional for sat in the backyard access area beside my house for almost 12months. I got sick of seeing a rusting car in my yard so I sold it as is. Not long after the sale I was kicking myself I didn’t ask $3000 for it as I let it go for $1600. To me I saw nothing but a rust bucket. The guy that bought it couldn’t race off quick enough to get the cash.

To think what I would be sitting on now if I had both of those HZeds in the condition I purchased them in and an HQ Coupe?

    How times have changed.

Hahaha,,, yes mate I think we all have these stories... Here's one of mine.. Many years ago I purchased a Silver mink 307 4 speed Saginaw box 10 bolt LSD, HK Monaro that was accident damaged, but repairable.. The repairs were beyond my ability at the time though... I had a povo pack Hk 186 4 speed opal box.. Of course being young and even sillier, I had broken the Opal gearbox. So I transferred all the running gear out of the V8 car into the Ex 6 cylinder one...........................................sent the silver mink car to the tip without even removing the tags.....

    STOP!

Before anyone jumps at the above bargain there are others out there! I think they will perform the same function and lock and unlock your doors with less expense per lock/unlock cycle.

Spotted this for sale on gumtree. Owner says carb only no extras.

Owner is advertising it as ‘Holley 750 HP Ultra new’

    $1,650

    1) Can get cheaper but if paying that price I’d go brand new for warranties etc.

    2) It ain’t no Ultra anyway. That is a aluminum Street HP. Can get two for that price.

Also stumbled across bbc manifold in first post December last year. The guy is still wanting $650 without negotiation.
