hi
Trik Hq
What brand of headers ?? Collector size / length ?? Do u use an adapter plate on standard chev port ??. I had alot of issues with the standard 1 3/4 headers I did have,, RE head Plate 1/ centre ports divider very wide 2/All head plate ports were narrow .
Interference with exhaust flow would have been fairly bad . Its why I started looking at other options .
Your engine would be interesting with a 1 7/8
For a street based engine sub 6500 it appears a collector of 3 inch is all thats needed .
If 17/8 are so compromising many brands in the USA are offering these on even 5 ltr engines but 5.7 to 6.4 ltr is common . But hey its the usa bigger is always better rules .

Get them 18" collector extensions in there...that seemed to show up gains/losses more than the primary pipe increase did.

Hi
Trik
U make a good advert for 1 3/4. [If I owned your beast 1 7/8 I`d just have to try LOL. ] Absolute proof 3 inch collector is enough even for 640 hp !!
Proof a 383 tried 1 7/8 with 3.5 collector . The 1 3/4 were slightly better in the midrange [3.o inch collector ]. If the 1 7/8 had a smaller dia. 3.o and longer collector would just beat the smaller set of headers IMO
This engine size seems to be a cross over 400 --427BBc , HP seemed to slow after about 5500rpm with 1 3/4 . The 1 7/8 gained alot

Sorry Geoff, your assumptions are incorrect. I have been doing root cause analysis for vehicle manufacturers for well over 30 years. Recently I have been doing a lot of work on cooling systems...
