Not necessarily, I’d take the car to a good diff place where there are people who really know Salisburys and have it rebuilt.
People often have issues with the Salisbury because they are worn or incorrectly adjusted and then they put a fresh engine in front of them and they fail. The Salisbury, correctly specified, adjusted and in good condition is a robust piece of kit.
The Ford 9” is popular because it’s seen as easier to live with. Most of that is because it takes less time and expertise to set one up. However, if you find the right person to work on your Salisbury then you’ll be surprised. Setting up the crown wheel and doing the shimming takes a little more time. You also have to make sure the bearings are correctly specified, there are less expensive bearings that fit and would do the job for a stock spec engine but for something like what you have you need the higher quality bearings.
You’re going to be able to work out if you have the right person with a 10 minute conversation.Last edited by Horaldic; 27-11-2020 at 03:17 PM. Reason: Grammar

Yeah I see. The diff actually feels good so for now I'm not overly concerned. Leaves nice tram tracks behind it and car goes straight.
Yeah mate, that was the car at Kembla. Might head there again now with my mate in his GTR. Stick your head in?

As above
Salisbury dont do single peggers for long ....
I have one of these weak as piss unicorn piss infested things with nothing more then a rebuild and gj 4pinion centre behind a turbo 308 with a manual and grabby clutch with not a whole lot of babying.
It finally broke the bearing spigot off 7 something years later...
Hazard at a guess my turbo pos put down a little more then 403 nm @ 16odd psi up its ass
Trans-braked with sticky tyres at the track will be alot sooner.
I built my current Salisbury with a harrop trutrac made up solid spacer and tightened up back lash quiet dramatically.
Was a little whiney to start with but has now settled in well.
On another note the harrop uses larger side bearings and is able to leave more "meat" on the bearing spigot.
Awesome piece of kit and is worth while upgrade

Got my Salisbury done at The Diff Shop. Tru trac in it. Not a modified one. Works a treat. Just need need billet axles now.

Amazing how results and peak revs vary with only a few differences.
My old combo (apart now for upgrades) was similar. The only differences to yours were; stock valves, .5 more comp, 1 5/8"tri-y's, TP single plane, SFT 248/252 @.050".
Made 406rwhp @6100rpm. (manual though)
On tuners advice I swapped to 1 3/4" tri-y's and twin 3" and with no tune changes made 436rwhp at the same 6100rpm.
You would definately make an impressive gain with a better manifold (but be out the bonnet) and twin 3's".

Picking up 30 at the wheels with tuning, good stuff.
Guessing primary main jets are 70 or 71 now. Secondary 80ish?
Salisbury diffs can last forever but with 350 odd hp at the rear longevity would be correlated with driving style or at least how often you try and make the tires go faster than the car is moving.Last edited by BasicQ; 29-11-2020 at 03:37 PM.

Yeah Redtaxi, very much a compromise in keeping it all under the bonnet, and because the Commos have a single cutout in the rear for the exhaust I want to keep that looking neat too. The exhaust had only a single muffler and had a nasty resonance on liftoff so I added a hotdog at the exit which has helped but not completely cured it.
Basic, I think primary is now 66, secondary I forget!

66 main jets in a 750 sounds a bit on the lean side! especially for that engine.
As Basic suggested, 70's would be the norm'
Sounds like you are happy with progress none the less, good work.

Well it's running 5-10 degrees hotter so I'll need to keep an eye and ear on it. Was filthy rich before the tune though.

So I just looked at the packaging list from Quadrajet Power when I had purchased my kit in 2019, its a 0.13 high flow needle and seat.
