Default Bw vs 9 inch cost

Lh torana with sbc approx power 550hp atfw
    Turbo 400 box 5k stall
Looking at a diff i can shorten and weld a bw myself but will still cost $100 housing $400 for all new mounts $100 check and straighten after custom 31 spline axles (not sure on cost of these)
Or i can get a 9 inch housing to suit with 31 spline custom axles for $1600
Im going to run a full spool in either and 4 11 gears
Which one would be more cost effective in the end ?
    Thanks benno

    hi
    9 inch
Seamed tube will have no resale compared to seamless .
As far as Im aware 99% diff places use seamed tube . In ozzy the alternate is chrome moly housing . The best way to do a diff is Strange diff centre and housing . The Strange pro housing is seamless and reinforced internally . U can buy with tubes and centre section only . Specify no drain no fill There fill and drains are shit /bulky unprofessional
Use a Currie 7/16 UNF bobble head breather. Use a flush fitting 3/8 npt drain .from Rocket.

Billet Housing ends Holden and coil spring brackets
    Suspension mounts Upper and Lower
    Both above are around 500$

    Axles brakes
Most places can do theses with standard rear drum brakes. Assuming cut down new units
Go Geelong diffs for complete or parts-- no custom axles
Aussie diffs complete or parts -- no custom axles

Tru custom axles come from very few places in OZZY around $ 550 each
Mcdonald bros cost $$ builds diffs custom axles come from Ultra 9
Ultra 9 in Bris cost $$ very very arrogant ,, builds diffs and custom axles

Cost 4000--6000 for an average diff . This combo will add up to more the faster u wanna go

There are some very incompetent diff places around. I have not even mentioned the cheap Chinese shit diff centres . Some name brands either have clones or are made in china !!!!!!!!!!.
99% centre section diff carrier housings supplied in ozzy are Chinese .WTF. The partially welded Strange will add only a few hundred $ to the build .

Always always check 100% u must check axle length with dog bone . Axles can run on diff centre and explode diff center because of being 1-2mm to long and cause metal shavings .
The above diff was done by a guy who`s been doing it for years WTF

Always get the diff centre checked for drag preload and teeth mark up etc from second shop ...

Really depends if you plan to up the power later on.

The 31 spline billet axles for B/W from Aussie diffs are around $900 pair, the full spool around 280.

    Hi
Big differences in the upper diff mounts . Some business places will try to use old trailling arms cut and welded to housings . Fabricated /sheetmetal folded or water jet cut top mounts is the only way . The triangle sheetmetal upper mounts are better than a rectangle box section . The sleeve to hold bush is to be machined also.

Watch the wheel studs as well 1/ how there made 2/ how there installed
You want standard wheel stud arrangement --make sure u get it.

Most of my cars had b/w conversions although nowadays rather just go 9 inch & not worry about breaking it at track with slicks...once priced up for new gears/axles etc difference is not all that great if you add in trutrac...fullspool is annoying as hell if you want to do decent cruises.

B/w used to be cheap to do once track down all the parts....crewman diff if want to keep it all holden

Basically makes b/w look like a banjo diff...large axle bearings & pinion flange, monster axles, bigger rear disc brakes....heavy duty axles & gears. Can also buy aftermarket parts if need be like 4.11 gears.

They sometimes pop up on gumtree/fb marketplace cheap enough.

Only thing never checked is if v6 is same as v8 model.

Default Bw vs 9 inch cost

Mate paid $2200 for his built Borgy. Only thing he supplied was his gears and housing.

That inc full spool. Timken bearings etc. arp 1/2 studs. Diff was aligned and welded around tubes. Shortened to size. 31 spline ALTRA9 axles.

    HI
When ordering specify wheel stud arrangement
    IF u want factory style
Many places can only do what they can buy in
1/ screw in --typically the length will be way longer [typically come from diff places ]
2/ 1/2 inch studs may be pushed onto you
3/ there are ARP 7/16 studs [diff shops seem to be unawares / Part of the spline/base is way bigger in diameter than factory .] Option worth considering .
4 / many Holden studs can be still purchased after market with factory diameter /length and fitting

Most screw ins interfere with rear disc brake setup

Caution some will only warranty if come with screw in studs WTF . This mob makes custom axles !!!!
Poor service by many diff shops is pathetic !!!!
