Another 308 post
Hey guys , im building a holden 308 at the moment , specs are
Std stroke, arp studed and arp rod bolts in vn spike rods, 0.030 over in the bores zero decked rotating assy balanced
Come oil mods and 0.002 under cam bearings , 0.010 under on crank and rods ,
Heads: vn headed 2.020 intake std exhaust stainless valves , positive valve stem seals and all the fruit to make a 288 crane work in the heads , will be pocket ported and runners cleaned up by me with advice from a mate,
Rollers: 1.65 platinum yella shaft mounts
Cam is the crow 4731 solid ( simular to the 288 solid )
Comp: 11:1
Exhaust: pacemaker tri y design headers into twin 2.5 with cross over ,
Intake: ( nfi on brand but looks like a redline knockoff ?
Carb: 650 dp speed/race demon ( one without the choke horn )
Ignition : will be a bosch regraph to start with may end up with a msd ,
All this will be stuffed into my hz wagon with a 3500 stall and a manualised colum shift trimatic ( burko special) and a 3:55 lsd salisbury , will get her engine dynod once built but what do you guys think it will put out at the flywheel , and what things do you think i should change , ( i do want a tp single plane but that has to wait )
Cheers awaiting replys , rielly

That sounds like a nice combo mate. Wouldn't change a thing..
Good luck with the wags!

Around 380-400 flywheel .. The 3500 stall and 3.55 gear might let the combination down a bit.. But hey you can always suck it and see

When your saying it will let me down meaning not high enough diff ratio ? I think the next one up from 3:55 is 4:44 in salisbury diffs?

That's correct on the diff ratios.
If you are stuck with the 3.55 gears, you could try advancing the cam more(+2-4) and up the converter to around 4-4500.
The 3.55's are perfect for something like a Crane 280 cam, but probably too tall for a 250's @ .050 cam.
Years ago i ran a 3500 converter behind a 288 cammed engine and it wasn't great, drove almost like a stocker, as in couldn't flash stall it.
Or suck it and see!

When you mean by flash stalling it , meaning it didnt have enough torque to hold 3500ish off the line ? And iv been reading some old posts about the vn heads and paulzig always brings up the “peashooter” what does he mean by that

Haha, peashooter is a small straw un manly guys use to blow chewed up paper at the girls in class at high velocity.

What do you know about the peashooter?
-

No, most cars will turn the tyres on the line before reaching 3500 rpm.
What i meant was, when i was driving down the highway @ 100kph the rpm was 3000, when i hit the throttle it woudn't flash to 3500, it would lug the engine as if the converter was already locked, like it had a 2500-3000 converter. Does that make sense?
The "Peashooter" Pauly refers to, are the stock sized unported runners/ports on heads/manifolds etc...
