    Default My HJ Premier

    Hi Guys,

Thought I would would start a thread for my rebuild project.

It's a 75 HJ Premier with 308, TH400, A/C and P/S. The car is in great original condition, with only minimal rust and should be a good starting point for the rebuild.

My aim is to do as much of the work as possible myself. The basic plan is to strip the body back to bare metal and respray, rebuild the engine and driveline, new interior.

With a busy job and young family I don't get a huge amount of spare time, so I'm expecting this project to take a while. Hoping to get everything finished over the next couple of years.

Here's the car when I first got it. It came fully optioned with GTS dash, honeycomb wheels and factory sunroof.

Hi Drew, most mouldings come off pretty easily. They generally just use some retaining screws at the ends and then clip onto some flat headed metal studs attached to the side of the car. Once the retaining screws have been removed they will generally just slide off or unclip without much effort.

Body is nice and straight and everything else is completely untouched. Only just getting started, so still a long way to go. Thought that putting up a thread might help keep me motivated.

    Thanks guys,
Plans at this stage are for a nice weekend cruiser. Not going to be completely original, but no drastic changes. New paint, some extra HP, lowered, new wheels. This isn't going to be a show car, justing trying to get the best result I can working from my shed.

Don't like the original mandarin red much, but will probably go with a another red colour. Haven't decided how far to go with the engine yet...might depend on how well the budget holds out. Definitely want some more HP, but nothing too over the top. Will keep the interior fairly original but thinking of changing to black instead of the original colour.

These plans will probably change as the build evolves, but that's the general idea.

Not a big fan of the honeycomb wheels, but it came with a set of 5 with mostly new tires so I will keep them on to get rego. Planning to get new wheels & tires, but haven't decided what type yet.

I love your car, love those options, regarding the mods, what about a EFI motor with some head work and exhaust, paint the car the same color but in a pearl version? I think if lower it and you reco the wheels (maybe paint them shadow chrome?) and maybe de-badge it it will look very smart yet retain some of the originality which is worth money. Anyway just thought i would throw that out there, have fun and again great car.
