DIY comp: Flamethrowers
OK, I guess my favorite DIY thing on my car (aside from the engine which I put in all by myself
) is my flamethrowers. I designed and build this kit with information that I gathered from heaps of web sites and mostly using parts I already had.
Here's a pic of them in action

I'll have to take some pics of the system to post upLast edited by VAN454; 11-01-2006 at 11:08 AM.

OK, the control box contains 2 transisters, 2 resisters and a relay. It basicly just turns the power to the coils on and off around 50 times a sec. This is what gives you a constant spark at the plugs. First you switch on the control box, so that there is spark, then you turn on the fuel pump to presureise the system. Last you hit the switch for the fuel lock off which allows the fuel to flow to the spray nossles in the exhaust ahead of the plugs and give the engine a rev. That's about it. It took a fair while to figure out how to make it work and I am still tinkering with it to get an even bigger flame, but I'm pretty happy with it.

dont suppose you have a pic showing how u have installed the sprayers into the exhaust pipe?
I have the same thing in my bedford van, except i have a switch which cuts off the engine, pumping excess fuel into the exhaust. doesnt really put out the sorta flame i NEED!

I don't have any pics of how the nossles are held in since it is difficult to see even on the car. The nozzles are screwed into some metal fuel line that is attatched to the exhaust. Then there is rubber fuel line running back to a tee peice and then back to the fuel lock-off. Hope that kinda makes sense

was thinkin more about your flame thrower, im guessing the fuel line with the micro sprayers are inside the exhaust (obviously) how are u holding the metal fuel line in place and also where uve gone threw the exhaust pipe (with the metal line) wot did you use to seal around the pipe so no exhaust gases leaked out?
not sure if this really makes sense

The metal lines are bent to around 45 degrees and are held in plcae with a big hose clamp that goes right around the exhaust. I sealed the holes with muffler putty. Nothin to it.
