    Default The Federal election

I am urging fellow forum members to think carefully before you vote.

I am 72 & have voted in lots of elections, but I think this one is the most crucial for our country.

Decades of union thuggery has wiped out manufacturing in this country, aided & abetted by the Labor Party. The Toyota riveter getting $115+k pa holding a rivet gun, a job a monkey could do. $2000 per day for somebody holding a traffic stop/go sign. While young first year doctors working in hospital emergency depts, after emerging from 5 years of uni, getting nothing close to that amount of money.

The parliament, especially the Senate, has become a retirement lounge for ex union officials to get generous super & allowances, doing what they do best, putting their hand out for someone else's money; in the case of the parliament, OUR money. In the case of the union, members money. I doubt any of them have run a business, or had to worry if they could put bread on the table.....

Labor & Greens are joined at the hip with their communist policies. And the hypocrisy from Labor is just breathtaking: this past week it was revealed that NUMEROUS Labor pollies have neg geared inv properties, among the list I heard were Shorten & Dreyfus. With their own neg geared properties safely tucked away & grandfathered, they now want to deny US the same benefits. And who could forget Labor's David Feeney, who 'forgot' he had an investment property which he failed to disclose on his pecuniary register....

What do these names have in common [ I may have missed some...] : B. Burke, R. Jackson, K. Wright, M. Einfeld, N. Gallagher, M. Orkopolous, E. Obeid, MacDonald, Maitland, G. Nuttall, Williamson. They are all connected to the Labor Party & have all done jail time. A few others were lucky not to join the list...
Says much about the 'character' of Labor. How many Coalition members can you think of that have done jail time?

And the hypocrisy continues. Whitlam, Keating & Neville Wran [ NSW Labor Premier ] all live[d] in Sydney's most expensive suburbs, the Eastern suburbs. Hawke was not far behind at Northbridge. Hawke has had to recently downsize to a 'modest' $3,630,000 appt. None of these people were likely to run into a bricky's labourer while getting their latte at the local coffee shop.......Wran used to boast he was a Balmain boy. Keating likewise that he was a Bankstown boy. They only went back to those places at election time to get votes..

Today's children are no longer being taught, they are being indoctrinated by left wing teachers, on such things as global warming. It is scary. The poor kids are no longer being allowed to be just kids, their gender is being manipulated etc.

If you want to educate yourself & your children about G/warming, I suggest you go to your local library & read books by Ian Plimer, Chris Booker, Judy Marohassy. JM is an Aussie scientist & provides examples of the LIES that the Bur of Met is pushing to deceive the public.

    Please vote carefully...

There should be plenty of them, start with Barnaby Joyce this time around over what he did with the water.
While not a Liberal/National, Palmer should be in there as well.

Free trade agreements killed the automotive industry, make no mistake about that.

What you have written is either ill informed or just crap, changes to gearing are only on established properties after they put forward any laws that may or may not be passed.
Buying any new property will still be able to be geared, wont stop me buying property that's for sure.

Not much of a Labour fan either but I still wouldn't go around posting this crap.

This mob has got to go, the better ones have jumped ship and left the worst ones behind. They cant deliver anything that isn't fatally flawed or a complete waste of money.

I am only slightly younger than you Geoff so like you have seen my fair share of elections. I am or was a carpenter. I have worked on some major projects as well as housing and maintenance work.
Apart from being of a similar age I don't think we politically have anything in common. I spent most of my life across the ditch and saw the damage done when the National party deregistered the union movement. All of our allowances went out the door. Prior to that wages had been comparable with Australia, now they would be less than half. A friend I keep in contact with has told me a carpenter on his job is on about $22 per hour. Everything I have ever got has come courtesy of a union. holiday pay, overtime rates, smoko's, you name it that is where it came from. I am still even though retired a proud financial member of the CFMEU. You don't have to look to far around the world to see what happens where there is no union movement.
As for union thuggery I have never encountered any in my career. The union people I have contact with are good honest workers who are worth far more than they are paid. I understand though if you get all your information from the newspaper or the LNP then of course that's the way you are going to think.
HQ368, like you I am not a great fan of Labor though they still get my vote. I think free trade agreements will continue to hurt this country. We can not hope to compete with other countries until we have their wages and conditions.

    HQ,
You must have missed it. Labor is stopping neg gearing, I don't care if it is some or all properties.

As for who should be in jail, in the Labor camp, Kathy Jackson rorted millions from the HSU, & HSU members are some of the poorest paid people in the country. Despicable. I read the book on the whole sordid episode, about Jackson, her husband Jeff Jackson, Williamson & others, treating this union like their own personal fiefdom. Then we have Gillard who knew 'nothing' about her boyfriend ripping off AWU money, even though they shared a pillow every night. Yeah right.
And who could forget Craig Thomson of memory loss fame? Or Lionel Murphy helping his 'little mate'? Finally, we have Shorten selling out the Clean Event workers for 30 pieces of silver.

    Keith,
Not all unions are bad. I have seen union violence first hand. The BLF broke into the Master Builders Assoc Building in Newtown, Sydney& smashed equipment in the bldg. I was there repairing some of the damage. I saw it. Of course, the BLF denied any involvement. The CFMEU's standover tactics with employers are legendary, don't how you can deny that...

And the abuse of unionist dues..... In NSW at least, the Labor supporting Nurses union has been running ads on radio & TV asking for a 'change of govt'. No prizes for guessing who they are referring too. There would be many, many members of that union who do NOT want a Labor govt but their dues are being used to that end anyway. Just another example of abuse of union power.

    Please vote carefully...
ignoring the age gap.. of only a few years (my mates call me... yoda)
all that sounds like a paid party ad for the Coalition.. you a Liberal party member?

having said that .. I ALWAYS think before I vote
    and
for the record, I voted Liberal last time. This time..?? undecided. Palmer and the Libs?
    Labour and the Greens?
    also
You have a number of 'facts' stated which are not correct,
Parliament a retirement lounge for ex -union officials..?? Try what the Coalition does with its ex's .
Hockey off on an overseas jaunt.. getting BOTH his pay for the job AND his parliamentary pension.
Brandis....? yep him too, the list is long

Labor and Greens have Communist policies..? funny enuff, I am looking at my local Greens voting paper
(dropped in my letterbox) whilst I type this. Nothing remotely 'communistic' there. No nationalizing of
banks, farms or industry. Some sensible stuff about NOT using coal fire power stations though

Hypocrisy..??? You forgot the previous Liberal PM in your list. Turnbull outdoes Wran and Keating
in your stakes. an Eastern suburbs politician worth more than $400 million when I last looked

Kids having their gender manipulated.... ? strange, I have SIX Grandkids and I see them and their friends often
(had them most of all day yesterday) no gender manipulation happening there I am afraid.

ps... dunno about Toyota riveters (they have such things these days?) but Holden welding shop employees were
getting about half that which you state, $62K + overtime (if required) when the Elizabeth plant closed. Their Super
(at 12%) was higher than most (but not when compared to US Toyota, Ford and GM auto workers 15-20%)

I have a dream...a simple dream. Politicians should focus on one thing and one thing only. Improve the standard of living. Period that is it. That is their sole job. Keep out of all the liberty, social, moral issues etc. Improve the standard of living, by economic, health, and community measures. Not just for now but for future generations also.

Right now I don't see any party doing that. I see them pandering to any number of minority interests or generic issues with no meaningful or realistic plan around standard of living. All parties have some sensible ideas, all have many wildly fanciful ideas. All entered politics with the intent to do the right thing, but there is a very very famous saying that I believe sums up politics well:

“It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it.” Upton Sinclair

Most of the Liberal party's arguments this time around are completely specious.. and getting into bed with Palmer and Hanson is just cringe worthy and a simple act of desperation in my view. Anyway they've ****ed up big time with party members tugging at the reigns and their only ministers with any sort of talent jumping ship. They've had their run.

The whole election is a joke, these days you're voting for who you dislike the least because they all suck.

I don't like Labour because they are way to closely tied to the Greens.

Liberal aren't really any better either, a few weekends ago there was a bunch of young people in Liberal T-shirts doing a letterbox drop in my area, they were even polite enough to ask if I minded them putting something in my letterbox (I was out the front at the time) What really got me was later when I got it out of the letterbox it was just a card telling me all the "bad" things Bill Shorten and Labour would do if they get in. How about for once they tell me what good they're going to do instead of stabbing each other in the back.

They're all bloody crooks, you just need to vote for the least offensive.

You cant even vote based on policy, because most of them wont come to fruition anyway.

Truth be told none of their policies affect me, I dont benefit nor do I suffer... Its all family crap, education, tax and handouts... I get nothing
