The way Ebay is doing it is slightly dodgy, imported parts are listed without GST and GST is added at the checkout. I'm fairly sure anything that is subject to GST has to be advertised with GST inclusive pricing by law so I'm not sure how they are getting away with doing it this way.
Thats because Ebay is a law unto themselves.

There is a simple way around this, I am somewhat loaved to post it for fear it will be closed down. I like many Australians have a US shipping address. If you get the eBay seller to post direct to you Ebay adds the gst. If you ship to you shipper they do not add gst. My shipper is almost always cheaper than the shipper used by US sellers and I get to amalgamate my shipments. Last time I put together 7 small shipments and total postage was less than $100 AUD. You can get up to a month and a half to store before you ship also. You do need to avoid buying in the state you ship from as that will incur local taxes, it shouldn’t but try winning that argument from half way around the world.

A few ways to get one, you can arrange for someone over there to set it up or use shipping agents over here, licensed importers etc.
Try Cheetah imports for a start.

Sorry to rain on the parade guys but I would assume re-deliverers is the same as re-shippers you've discussed. I think they're on to it already if you look through the links in the link I've attached below.

Well I will soon find out, my goods were not charged GST at the shipper or EBay. They are still sitting there as I have more items to amalgamate. Should know in a weeks or so on that front I find it highly unlikely the shipper I’m using has joined up. Then whether the goods get charged at the border entry? That for me is the real question.

It gets around the hurdle of people not wanting to ship to Australia for whatever particular reason, especially in small quantities which is probably the biggest thing for me, second the greatly reduced shipping costs.
A lot of places in the States will ship to your OS address for free, especially if you spend $$$.
Ways to get around the paperwork and invoices, Americans are very helpful people....... The whole "arms length transaction" thing is open to be rorted.....

You still have to pay GST when it gets here but the amount can be significantly reduced.

    hi
Its unfortunate but some USA business houses already would not deal overseas and the gst complicates for the others that still do . Needless to say makes it slightly more dollars as well.

So What to be done ?

I suggest a V8 Forum called best shipping USA to OZ

How do the moderators organize this ??

WE as a group need to fight against the over greedy Tax system politicians and Jerry Harveys of this world .

If nuthin is done where just bitchin and whinging

Please voice your opinion on getting a forum for this.

Of course with either re-shippers or other businesses (Ebay etc), the rule is greater than $75 000 annual turnover in Australia and they're expected to register themselves to collect GST on behalf of our government, most just won't bother. However if you deal with someone who doesn't have that turnover and your product is less than $1000 Aus then as far as I can work out it's still GST free.

I don't get stuff from overseas very often and I'll cop the GST but the big killer for me personally is the shitty exchange rate, that's what really hurts the most at the moment. For others who buy heaps of stuff obviously they're getting hit from all angles.

    No doubt about that.

Chris Rock the comedian said once "we don't pay taxes, they take taxes"
