    Default 4L60e or T400

Hey Gents, got a question about what auto to run in my car. So heres the deal im building a Turbo 355 for a HSV senator and it should make around 800HP at the fly wheel now i did want to just build the 4L60e to suit but i've been told by a few people it will just end up shitting itself so im better off converting it to a T400. Would love some insight on this.
    Thanks in Advance
    Matthew.

Forget the 4L60e. You'll need a fairly serious Turbo400 for that amount of power.

    HI
The 4L65e has upgraded improvements over the 4L60e. Look up there tq and hp abilities on line it`s out there . The end result is 4l65e and Th400 will both require upgrading. Most likely the 4L65e will require more work to achieve the expected Tq/HP level compared to o/hauling a Th400.

4L60e can be made strong enough for what you want, its just a question on how much you want to spend.
T400 will be cheaper rebuild, tougher out of the box before mods, and best of all, no electronics to get in your way.

This advice is correct, spend the money in the right area's and the 4L60E will live fine, allow at least $3500 for trans, converter price will depend on whether you keep the lock up clutch or not.

400 will be cheaper to build but people want a lot of dollars for cores these days.

If you go a 400 it can be cheaper to buy a good quality US built one from a speed shop ready to go with the price of cores over here.

I'd spend the extra and toughen up the 4l60e or make a 60/65e hybrid.
Mostly because it seems backwards to go from an elec trans to a vac trans. I would also not convert an efi car back to carb. Same deal in my eyes.

I'm glad hq368 said that the 4l can be built to handle.

When I was researching for my 4l60 build I found them advertised in the states with up to 1000hp capabilities.
My vote for yours would be the 4l80e as stated above. Would likely work out cheaper than building a 4l60 to handle that amount of torque even with the controller.
And overdrive makes a weekender into an awesome cruiser!

Can anyone supply a parts list to handle the 800hp HSV355 is after? I am another who would like to run the overdrive but when looking theres so many different brands and kits its hard to choose.

The 60 will be cheaper to build than the 80 over here.
As far as a kit goes what are you looking for exactly wayno1 ?
Guys who are successful with these Box's use a combination of various manufacturers parts that complement one another.
I have yet to see a kit that incorporates all the parts I'd use, the guys marketing kits are not generally going to recommend the competitors parts.

If you actually spend the time and blue print a 4L60 style trans, I mean measure everything properly and machine components to where they should be, it'll be a real good thing. It's the time thing that shops don't spend which leads to the rest not being done.

4L80E is one heavy mother of a trans, I certainly cannot lift one on my own, 400 is heavy but is a lot lighter than a 4L80E.
I wouldn't sell any of my 80 cores for less than 1K and then you gotta build it, I doubt you'll find a reasonable 4L80E core over here for better than that unless your very lucky or its toast.

HQ368 i was looking to have a go rebuilding a 4l60e myself, i build a few autos years ago.
I was looking at 700r4l60e.com at some of their kits. I would be running turbo 5L similar to HSV355.

Any chance you can send me a PM with details, I'll sort you out a parts list for you to source.
I am not really interested in supplying parts.
