Default I think I'm missing something here?

A little observation from someone pure old skool.
What is it with tyres being stretched out to fit wider rims?
I see it's a common trait with the drifter guys but I'm now seeing it more and more on the street.
Even yesterday I was parked next to a BMW. A $100k vehicle at least with massive rims and tyres barely able to stretch out to meet the edges.
Is there a performance advantage? Or are people too "cheap" to buy appropriate rubber?
In my opinion an oversize tyre looks a lot more purposeful.
    Just a thought.....................

    Apparently it's a drift thing...

Prefer the 90's trend when we only fitted 2 simmons to front of car & tiny stockers/retreads on back

Not a fan either, looks ridiculous.
I prefer wheel/tyres that actually fit properly.
See a lot of bmw's at my work and other models some are done nicely.
Cant imagine how they would drive with excessive camber either.
Tyre wear would be really bad lol.

Like the Oakley factory pilot/thermonuclear protection sticker craze from 20+ years ago or my family one from recently, f#cking sheeple.

Whenever you see one of those stretched tyre abominations, the rims are usually ripped to shit from hitting gutters.

I know you say that in jest but I haven't noticed it anywhere else so you could be right?
Still I bought some ebay wheels for my Stato with worn out 235 rubber and you couldn't lay the rim down without it contacting the ground. Bought 245 tyres and they give just enough bulge to protect the rims and they look heaps better too.......

as he boasted, it has 10" rims yeah with 195 tyres

the tyrewall leans in about 20 degrees from where the tyre bead sits on the wheel

I asked how the tyre stays there... he said EASY, pump the type up to 65-70psi!

ps.. he has NOT told his insurance co ( I asked)

Nah, there is a twit here in Adelaide that has a POS with spoilers screwed on, a torch for a headlight, not a straight panel on the car, with what look like 8" rims and 185 tyres . . . . it is an accident waiting to happen.

I would post pics if I could.

It's not even drifters now it's pretty much anything post 2000 fitting the widest wheels they can but not being able to get a tyre over it. Even at meets I see plenty of VK/VL's with 9.5" rears with a 235 hooked over it lol
