    thanks for the tips Smitty.
Fortunately the guy I get to do the wheel alignment does a bit of racing himself and knows Commodores fairly well, so was able to offer some good suggestions for wheel alignment settings. He also said 2.5 deg camber is about as far as you'd go if the car is going to mainly be used for street duties. We had it set at 2.5 before and the tyre wear has been very even, so must be about the sweet spot. Total toe is 5.8mm, see how that goes.

    ta...
you might your toe settings make the front feel nervous, as 5.8mm (total both wheels I guess ) is a lot for Toyos
You could get away with that (or about 3mm a side) on Dunlops which are a stiffer tyre but I would use
2.5-3mm total toe-in on the Toyos (or Bridgies if you ever use those). It's not a lot of difference but you would be
surprised what a difference that makes.

oh.. and for the record, I have gone from zero toe on the Dunlops (my last set) to 3mm TOE OUT on the Toyos
yep wheels that looks like this... \ _ / It still tracks straight but geez the turn-in is awesome .

by the way, there is no true answer on this. Just keep trying stuff til you find a setup that works for you.

    cheers

    no dramas Smitty
I'll see how she goes, otherwise I'll take it back to get the toe tweaked.
Setup is difficult when you are still a newbie wannabe race car driver. I still struggle somewhat identifying between what is poor car setup and poor driving skills

naaah... that is an easy one.

poor car setup is where the car screws up, poor driving skills... the driver

... which means he will never get quicker

me? I am always on the lookout to improve my driving skills. Some might say that the older I am,
the quicker I was. But I still grab every chance.

Back in June, at a HSV drive day at Philip Island, I got 16 laps with Tim Slade .. 8 following him around
in a new GTS, 8 sitting in the front seat next to him plus 8 laps sitting next to Karl Reindler. These were
not flat out racing laps but quick enuff in HSV road cars

Watching where these guys turn the wheel/turn in/apex corners showed I was pretty ok at PI but there were
a few things I picked up... get to try them there on the weekend of Nov 14/15 when I will be there for the next
round of the Vic Supersprint champs

yes I've been to one driver training day at Morgan Park. It was a good introduction. Had one of the instructors sit in the passenger seat for a couple of laps offering some good advice on corner entry, apex and exits.

Unfortunately half way through the session, I ended up with a deflating rear tyre, so I had to swap the Toyo for my Bridgestone 'Supercat' spare..... Needless to say the Supercat howled and slid on every corner, didn't inspire a lot of confidence, so I had to back it off for the rest of the session. But sometimes it's good, because instead of just concentrating on going as fast as I could through a corner, I could experiment more on technique

    this is my latest upgrade.
Lashed out on a set of these beauties a couple of months ago. COME wanted to get rid of old stock, so were offering them for an extra special price for a limited time
They are all fitted up now and running, not without a few dramas along the way....
I got them milled to 53cc chambers, which should increase the comp by one point according to COME.

Just need to take it back to the tuner on my holidays next month to get the tune tweaked and see what gains have been made (hopefully gains!)
    Also saved 22kg in weight

I contacted Trickshift a couple of months ago, took me a few shots. I think it's a husband and wife business.
Apparently they've had some telephone & internet issues.
They've only recently moved to Gatton Qld, not far away from me actually

Seem a bit disorganised at the moment. I was trying to get hold of another gasket for the plenum so I could get it powdercoated. They seemed reluctant initially to help, but then I told them that it was my SS in their photo gallery and suddenly the lady lightened up and seemed very helpful. They didn't have any in stock but were going to get hold of the supplier and get back to me, but never did....

From what she told me, they haven't got any stock of new manifolds at the moment, they are still sorting out things at the new premises, will do another run once they get things going again. Apparently they have quite a few people interested in another run.
Don't bother with the email though, they'll never get back to you. Keep trying the phone

Cheers Darren, good to know a bit of background to their situation.
I will keep trying them. I am fine to wait until the next run (be it 6month or more even).

interested to see what your new dyno results come out at. (are you using a delco or a haltec?)

    no worries mate.
    I'm using a Kalmaker SP3/Realtime Delco ECU
I'll take it back to Terry Seng from Paramount Performance for the tweak, he knows Kalmaker/Delco well. He did my original tune.
His dyno is also fairly honest so you don't get BS figures.

I will let you know the results - hopefully it's up on the last run

FYI - I took the car out for it's first drive today, just to make sure everything is running right, no leaks etc.
It ran well, I didn't flog it, but it seems to be a bit livelier out of the blocks now (usually takes a bit of coaxing on initial takeoff with the 3.08 diff) and pulls better overall at low RPM. It managed to go up a couple of hills in 5th gear where usually I need to drop back to 4th. I suspect these improvements would be due mainly to the increased comp.

I only gave one short squirt full throttle/wound it out a bit and at least from a 'seat of the pants feel', it felt stronger up the top end which should be the heads coming into play.
Dyno results will make for an interesting comparison (compared to the last results). Not only peak hp, but the power curve as well.
