Default (WA) HZ Holden, 202 to 253 engine swap

Hi, basically im confused on how i would go about doing an engine swap on my HZ, im planning on swapping out my 202 for a 253 (yeah yeah i know not much of an upgrade, i just want a cruiser with a decent exhaust note and i got the 253 for just about nothing).

The red 253 is a 1976 block from a HX, have all the pollution gear and orig equipment for it and all the pieces for the conversion, swapping it isn't a problem, however im not sure how i would go about updating the registration properly, apparently WA is funny on its regulations..

Some people say aslong as it was a factory optioned engine (which it is) then you aren't required to have it inspected and just have the engine number updated..

However you have other people that say any engine swap now needs to be engineered and presented for inspection and all these other hoops to jump through..

Is there anyone who has recently done something similar or can tell me how it works now?

Will the engine being a few months older than the car, despite being the same be a problem?

Unfortunately you will have to get the swap inspected.

See the top right of this form http://www.transport.wa.gov.au/media...cleDetails.pdf

If all the pollution gear is there & hooked up you will be fine. They did a basic check on the rest of my ute - brakes, lights etc.

Thanks, i can see why some blokes just do the swap and leave it rego'd as a six, i mean it has to be inspected eventually if/when it gets sticker'd.

    hi
There will be the correct forms maybe loaded question or maybe what the WA paper work is not allowing for is optional drive train in clear written english OR if u interperet this form like for like this would include any model engine fitted to that type of chassis factory . The last comment is what is most likely .
Changing to an optional change only requires engine number change in many states [ have not checked all]
Just one of the many bsh.t rules done by some tool in government . Wait till u try and swap state rego with modified vehicle or drive state to state and the coppers will swear black and blue your car is illegal for some state rule . Does not happen as much these days but state differences are still there .

The biggest rule to remember is once its approved in 1 state its legal in all by law . The states just donot keep up with each other . This creates all the problems . Sometimes its the way a state govt interperet the federal guidlines and puts them into practice incorrectly . Hey I`m no lawyer but the problem is obvious .
