neither am I ... it all points to timing being out
(if as stated, there is fuel and spark)

Thanks for the advice. Will look at timing over weekend.

In post #1 you say now it won't fire up all. Which is why I suggested you look at the coil. But in a later post you say it will idle in Park, but dies in gear? Although it could still be the coil, I would move it to the bottom of the list of things to try. Check that the ign system is getting the reqd voltage, which I assume is 12v.
Also check, idling in Park, that there is no fuel dribbling into the throttle bores, indicating a flooding carb.

That doesn't sound like the issue that i fixed with replacing the coil, but the original post is. As others said it might be something else as well.

Sorry Geoff. Post #1 is where i am at now (can't start).

I should have been less scattered in my comms. My response to you was detailing the symptoms that occured leading up to being unable to start.

Hit it with a timing light... see if the dizzy has moved retarding timing, causing it to idle shitty, stall when you put it in gear and run like crap.

It might also be a Holley...just being a Holley. Get some gaskets, strip it, hit it with some compressed air & it might run...like magic.

Imo other then timing issue as i stated earlier a vacuum leak could also be probable cause for it to run like shit also.

It's not a "Holley....just being a Holley" He has already stated that it squirts fuel from the accel pump but it doesn't start.

I connected a spark tester to one of the leads and getting blue spark between lead and plug (will check them all next weekend).

Took out plugs and replaced with new plugs of the same type. Old ones were dark and had slight fuel residue on them. Likely from trying to crank when troubleshooting. Would that be signs of not enough spark at plugs?

As mentioned earlier may have to investigate ICE system closer.

Knackerbag, what spark plugs you running?

Do you use a PCV valve?

Checked the intake manifold gaskets are not leaking?

NGK BP6FS plugs. Both rocker covers have filters. There is no leak on manifold.

Will try and advance timing first
    to see if any change

If the timing has moved, there should still be signs of life from the engine; such as a backfire or attempt to start. Even if the timing chain has worn & jumped a tooth or dist has moved, you should get something.

So maybe back to square one, to narrow down what has failed. I would do this, in this order.

    1. Check the dist cap & rotor for arcing/carbon tracking. Also check the high tension tower on the coil.
    2. Remove the plugs & make sure they are dry; if they are very sooty, they should be replaced.
    3. Good plugs, pour half an egg cup full of fuel down each primary throttle bore. See if it will start. If it is absolutely dead, no sign of life, no backfire or attempted start, you can probably eliminate fuel as the problem.
    4. Spark delivery. Check that the ign system is getting the reqd voltage. Swap the coil, doesn't need to be the same coil, just make sure if the ign is inductive that you use an inductive ign coil, not a coil designed for CD ign like the MSD 6X.
