The engine is for my UC Hatch so there is no authenticity issues in changing the engine.

I was thinking more along the lines of,
If I have to take to new sleeves out to 40 thou straight up is it worth it?
I can likely find a virgin vn-vt block for around the same price as sleeving that may only need a minor clean up.

Or i can just give up on the 308 and head down the LS route.

I have to buy everything for the V8 conversion anyway regardless of 308 or LS.

2 sleeves to match the rest at 40,,, cost not very much,,,,,, 308 LS debate,,, you'll get arguments both ways.

Do not even mention LS, just before Christmas we got a new 6lt crate engine motor in, had to do a full job on it, it was contaminated with heaps of metal cutting swarf, very loose timing chain, f'all bearing clearances, very dirty cylinder bores and absolutely no sign of any assembly lube on anything at all, totally dry everywhere. We have pics and video of how loose the timing chain was. VERY disappointing for a brand new engine.
Anyway, we fit the sleeves with a step at the bottom of the blocks bore and if you don't remove all of the parent material it does not remove all of the blocks strength. We do all 8 quite often for people who want the correct casting numbers etc.

a 308 into a UC is easier/cheaper than any LSx conversion

    HI
Chev into Torana should not be that bad .
    ADR capacity ruling apply
    weight vs HP ruling apply
Tell em its a 305,307 , 327 with 200hp . There are even lower hp chevs than that .

Might need a brake up grade I doubt it thou . A 308 has factory xxx brakes = no problem .

If u need a brake upgrade use a kit that converts to HQ fronts . The kit DONOT have the steering and caliper hitting issues .

Go to the GMH torana site there is plenty of good info there.

I asked my (motorsport) machinist about a sleeve and he said NO. When i know that holden bores can be 2mm thick or less I think i know why. After boring how much cast iron is left to be structurally sound, cause the sleeve surely can't be?

    Hi
Contact hopper stoppers. U need to verify the following .I suspect you may need at least 14 more likely 15 inch and above wheels . Plus the A9X flares .
U can do a brake conversion it is possible but if u donot use the exact combination of parts the problems arise I mentioned . The brake conversion might come certified as well. Hoppers will also be valuable for advice on what to do with the rear brakes as well .
