    Default hydraulic lifters fail

    G’day,

After a hot restart had a tapping lifter. Drove 20km home, infra red temp gun on exhaust manifold showed a runner with less heat than the rest so pulled valve cover and found a very lose rocker. Locknut still tight, undone it and checked the pushrod is straight, couldnt feel the plunger have any pump so adjusted it like a solid thinking it might last till i get time to get manifold off and fix it.

Next day drove about 30km and got another ticker... could hear it from cab and this time could feel the engine underpowered as i drove home. Infra red showed a different cylinder had lower temp, hmmm. Pulled covers and found 3 loose rockers, different ones to the one i fiddled with the day before. Same deal with locknuts tight.

wtf is going on here. Oil pressure is down i can see on guage to just under 20 but its usually at about 30-40 at idle depending how hot it is.

Hit me with a list of stuff I can check that might be causing this shitbox to do this. Thanks

Sounds like a lobe or lifter is wearing down, if the rockers haven't moved and the oil is clean.

Might have to lift the manifold to inspect for tell-tale, newly machined lobes.
