At least with solids you can tell when ones rubbed off by the tappet clearance. some of these could of rubbed off years ago. Ive only got 9:1 compression with these 22cc dish blower pistons. Most of the solid cams ive seen today online look like they need 9.5-10:1 comp might have to ring up camtech and see what they have there. This cam i got is not in their listed cams either. Anyone here succesfully managed to fill a 22cc 2618 alloy dish into a flat top?

Could be many many reasons why it has wiped some lobes. Incorrect break in procedure and poor/incorrect lubrication are generally the main culprits.

If all these remain unchanged on a solid flat tappet cam the outcome will be the same.

Might be a good idea to strip and clean the whole engine, unfortunately.

Not sure how much zdpp Shell Helix has...obviously not enough. Something to think about.

The lobes wearing over time would allow the preload to increase, causing the pushrod to act like a slidehammer on the lifter cups, which destroy the plunger and spring.

As said before, the circlip is a better option over the wire clips.

Yeah mate I will strip it down and clean her up, theres a lot of glitter in the pan. Rang camtech about downsizing on the duration and tightening the separation up a bit to better suit the comp ratio and convertor. Must be getting old

120psi cranking shes a bit gutless without that snail on. Got sick of pulling manifolds and straightening em every month but it sure was fun to drive.

Could you fill the piston reliefs with JB Weld or some sort of epoxy?
    Is it dangerous territory??

    You could have two problems.

Lifter pump up will punch out those weak circlips. Pump up is caused by excessive rpm &/or weak valve springs. The valve train would have been very noisy if the cause of this problem was worn lifters & lobes. Are the worn lifters/lobes the same lifters that have punched out the circlips?

How old are the lifters? Anything after the year 2000 is suspect. If you don't want another failure, find some pre-2000 lifters or factory lifters & have them re-faced. This applies to hyd & solid. Clive Cams does a superb job & reasonably priced.

Engine was built in first half of 2014. Cam run in procedure was followed then changed oil and replaced filter. Engine has been thrashed good and propper for nearly 5 years on dirt tracks and bitumen. Its always had a lot of noise up top along with the 90lb injectors or whatever they are clacking away and my 0.011 thou piston to bore clearance and 2618 alloy pistons its hards to tell whats making the noise. With the leaking sump and crank seals and my 0.032 ring end gaps she burns and drips enough oil that most times i just keep topping her up rather than changing it. On 20 psi boost its quiet rich at 11.5 to 11.8 and a fair bit would end in the sump. I can remember changing the oil a couple years ago but since then its been top ups i think neglect is the problem here maybe

Its running 22cc dish 4.035 pistons with 1.250 pin height (11424 diamonds) 350 chev pistons to suit 9 inch deck and 6 inch rod. To get flat tops for it i’d need to order a set to suit the chev but with no valve reliefs cut

The bride doesnt lke me spending money on the ute unless she can see something actually broken. I took her by the hand up to the shed and gave her a good look at my camshaft and pistons with broken black burn marks on the top of them so she now understands i may NEED some flat tops
