You can get by without the degree wheel, just set the dial gauge up accurate.

If the lift is a lot less than the .108 or whatever the f-ck it says on the card then it needs to be advanced... If more, retard..

Roughly every .0035" is 1 degree

if you put 2 on the crank the cam will be 4 advanced because there is already 2 on the cam pin... You can do it like that, it will drive all the valve timings 2 earlier thats all, might be a good thing it might make f-ck all difference... If I was using that cam on an engine like yours I would put 2 on the crank sprocket to make it 4 all up.. The lift at TDC will be around .115...

I am tired of typing the numbers 2 and 4, and I dont want to use ALT 0176 for the symbol anymore

Crane cams claim that if the cam is going to be advanced or retarded, it should be a minimum of 4 crank degrees if you want to feel a 'seat of the pants difference'.

I was told years ago by a cam expert that if you have to put in a cam 4 degrees or more from straight up, you have the wrong cam.
Many years of engine dyno testing later, I have found that to be correct.

^^Sounds spot on to me. Many have said cams come with 2 deg advance ground on them. My last camtech solid installed on zero dialed up exactly 2 deg advanced. I have seen some pretty floppy cam chains that would leave the cam at least 2 deg retarded. So I called it good and it was.

Well, if you ask someone what they think of your cam it will almost ALWAYS be the wrong one, and if you would have put in the one they recommend you would make more power...
