    Default Noob Quadrajet rebuild question

    G'day,

I'm in need of a Quadrajet rebuild. This is for a quaddy that has had a tune to suit a mild 308 which made reasonable power. As part of the rebuild I expect the secondary rods to be left as is but I'm more concerned with the primaries. Basically, as part of the tuning process on the dyno, the tuner drilled a hole at the front of the carby to (I assume) get to the primary jets to tune?

I wanted to know if a rebuild would affect the pre tuned setup or if I actually need to tell the dude any details about it such as leaving the existing setup as is but rebuild the carby itself?

    /end noob question

.. a proper rebuild will include a dyno run (with the carb back on the engine)
a decent tuner will allow for any previous mods but the rebuild (or reco)
should NOT necessarily change the primary setup if it is still ok

btw .. is the hole in the TOP or the FRONT of the carb?
(if the top, that is OK .... I do that mod with with mine for tuning reasons)

The bit that was drilled is at the top/front section, in front of the primary flaps. I believe it was drilled out and removed like a cork then replace? The carby is gold but this section is silver with a slight drill in it. This was years ago. Don't know if that vague info helps.

I will be looking at a dyno after the rebuild though.

Another noob question... that drilling at the top of the carby does that actually involve tuning the primaries? If so, is it possible to incorrectly tune those to have the vehicle run extremely rich on idle? T

    yes
    and ....maybe a yes possibly

depends on whether someone has been playing with the APT or idle tubes
or been buggerizing around with the idle bypass or done some silly
shit without understanding (like drilling out the idle mixture screw seat!)

This carb has the drilling at top, with a grub screw tapped in (to prevent fuel leaks)
