Default CATS on 550Hp 74 Torana

    Hello all
I put this outthere. What would be a nice CAT even though my 74 Torana doesn't require it. It has 4x48 webers and runs 98 Premium. Its 343 cuin. I know this will cause an uprising as it's a pre 27A car BUT what's the issue with trying to conform abit just a little?????? What are your thoughts. If people get nasty on this I will just close it. I know it's a difficult one but why not do our bit even with carbs?????

    Hi
If u run even slightly rich /tuned for performance the cats will not last that long . They canbe restrictive to most exhaust designs .

You can get magnaflow high flow cats, I have an LS in a Torana so I had to and they will be gutted soon, but like swampy says with the tune set to kill why bother.

You are already conforming WITHOUT cats, if the car is legal without them why go the extra mile? Putting cats on your car would be a drop in the ocean, let the manufacturers worry about current and upcoming emissions standards.

I think Burmese are nice cats.

Seriously though, Magnaflow or Pacemaker or the bullet type (can't remember the brand) would probably be ok if you really want to go that way.

Smb exhaust 100 cell, won’t burn out the cat.
They are an excellent cat the rest I have used are average/the ones above.

would be better off spending the cat money on tune or towards alternate fuel like e85 if you have the comp

a decent set of cats aren't cheap but if you tune it well you wont burn too much fuel which equals saving the environment

also will be cheaper for you so you have more money to spend on the car

    Hi
Leave the cat requirement to the laws and idiots in charge .
It would appear that there is enough HAVING to comply going on from the govt anyways . Some people on this site are running cats on vehicles that donot require them . This comes from over the top demands from govt . A legal grey area . If u are running a late model engine that's been converted to carby . OR The engine could be complete aftermarket COULD IT NOT .. Besides that the car has to conform to its year of make rules the later engine does not when fitting to an earlier vehicle.

If you run one cat per bank most will be just fine. I ran an Outlaw 200cpi cat on my old xr6 turbo that was 600hp and it was the best one I had as far as eliminating exhaust smells.
Since then I've used whatever ebay brand was cheapest. Never had an issue and pushed up to 800hp through them.
