Yep. right now anything under NZ$400 (including shipping and insurance etc) gets in free but anything over the magic $400 gets the double whammy of the inspection fee + 15% GST. So if you get something that ends up been just over NZ$400 you end up with another $110 in fees and GST. They are pushing a law change now where anything up to $400 will only incur GST (and they hope to have retailers collect on their behalf just like Aussie is doing) but they aren't removing the inspection fee for items over $400 which really sucks. The worst part is customs doesn't even inspect anything, it's purely an admin thing.

Watch it, it gets worse. I got whacked 250 GST and then another 100 (for fees and bits) for the privilage. And it added a month to delivery time (from oz) just for fun.

Yeah, I had a big fight with a shipping company 2 months ago. The bastards hold you to ransom with extra charges above the inspection fee and GST. The shipper ended up wearing the costs as they ****ed up the shipping which was the cause for the extra costs.

It's ****ed up because it's not like I could buy the same part locally either, so in effect a part with a sale value of NZ$330 was going to end up costing NZ$559 by the time I had it in my hands. I was spewwing.
