    Default What to expect

Hello all fellow Holden V8 enthusiasts.
Iím about to receive my 355 VP Ute in the next few weeks and Iím curious as to what I should expect power wise once it goes up on the rollers. Been throwing numbers around with people here and there and I thought Iíd see what people here think she will do.

COME stroker kit: cast crank, Wiseco forged pistons, H beam rods
    10.5:1 compression
Crane H304 cam: 236 at 50 thou, 520 inch lift
Harrop single plane high rise manifold
    Edelbrock 1000cfm throttle body
    4-1 extractors: 1 3/4inch primaryís and 3 inch collectors
    2.5 inch twin straight pipes
    Bosch blue top injectors
    Stock fuel pump
    98 octane fuel
    Stock EFI heads
    5 speed Manual gearbox
    Cheers

My guess is you will crack 300 at the wheels but not 310

Depends on what dyno but, I'd say 270 -300 rwhp manuals give more power than a stalled auto..

Certainly more than if it was an auto I'd expect around <300 but not by much... & you probably might find some while you are there

What the others have said. T5 box might not last unless you are gentle. Some head work and a bigger solid cam that combo could go 500hp

I'd be disappointed with anything less than 300rwhp. I hope the fuel system can keep up.

Thanks for the replies guys. Iím not totally hung up on power figures. I know that from what I went from which was a stock 304 with sunken valve seats to where it is now is a totally different animal and Iím gonna love driving it when I get it back. I was thinking however that it would be sitting around the 250-270 rwkw range. What could be holding it back from making the power? The plan is see what it does on the dyno during tuning and upgrade the pump and possibly go bigger injectors if what I have now maxes out the fuel system. Weíre gonna be setting the rev limit to 6500rpm for this combo and I know that my cam and manifold also calls for better heads and more revs to get the most from it. I may go down the alloy head path in the future but just going to stick with the stock ones for now.

Blue tops probably wonít keep up past 200rwkw or so, and a roller cam would liven things up as would some minor head work.

Should have very good midrange as it is though.

Stock fuel pump and injectors will hold it back from making any decent power >200rwk like above.

That combo is a bit all over the shot, I imagine it would feel doughy. Either needs a decent solid and preferably more comp or put a smaller intake and try-y's on.

Alright bit of an update. Just came back from the shop. Decided to put LS1 injectors in it and a fuel pump. Leaning towards a walbro 460 or similar

Biggest is not always best when it comes to high pressure fuel pumps, pumps that greatly exceed the required volume just heat the fuel more than needed pumping the excess volume round and round and round...

My engine builder said he will look into one that matches my combo. It seems the Walbro should be plenty without going over kill when we talked about pumps this afternoon. Iím also open to suggestions too. I always had it in the back of my mind what if the stock one isnít enough so decided to go ahead and upgrade it to save the hassle later.

    Probably 300 rwhp.

It's a little mismatched for a manual car..will drive better with stalled up auto.

3rd gear in t5 won't like extra grunt.

I'd be looking at something in the 255lph range which is enough to support 450-500hp n/a.

The problem with Walbro is that there are so many copies around that are hard to distinguish from the genuine article and the copies don't flow as well. Tread with caution.

MY mate has a DW200 in his VR and that is happily supporting his 355 using 36lbs injectors (good for 420hp @80% DC).
