Default Bucket List VH - Emphasis on 'bucket'

G'day all, buckle up because this might get long winded.

Been lurking for quite a while, without posting a hell of alot but I figured its time for me to contribute, aswell as have an outlet to document the build of my VH which will never run (so im often reminded of ). If nothing else it may be of interest to some of you and if I manage to get some quality pointers or manage to answer someone elses question along the way, well that's just a welcome bonus!

After being plucked from the back of a Kalgoorlie shed where it had been for lord knows how long, then stuffed in storage for near on 3 years until I had time/space/gear to work on it i've finally made a start on a bit of a bucket list project.

1982 VH SL/E, 253, trimatic, 3.08 small sals. Only mod this far being a HZ statesman 308 plonked in there... which has all seen better days

The intention is to go fast, styled on the pro-street 1st gen commodores I fell in love with as a kid in the late 90's (which means im still a kid i guess, right?). Iron lion up front, braked auto in the middle, short diff down the back, dished welds/centrelines, half cage, and some spray. Everything you need, nothing you dont. But let me give you some back story to set the scene a bit, blokes who dont mind a yarn will get a kick out of it.

Initial plans are to remove anything thats unnecessary (A/C, P/S, Cruise). Next clean, re-gasket and welch plug the motor, fit a stock TH350 trans and VL turbo diff, then clean the car up for rego. Thats when the fun of turning it up would begin, learning as we go along.

Originally this was going to be a VN headed, 11.0:1, SFT, 308ci, plate kit budget build for funsies. Then a bad influence says "C'mon mate, I think we can do better than that". This is where shit gets out of control.

    Every build you make,
    Every risk you take,
    Every part you break,
    Every tyre you bake,
    I'll be watching AV8.

So now we're planning a stroker. Source a Harrop crank, scat H beams, 4 bolt virgin bore/deck block, set of stock VR heads, harrop SP. Not a bad start. Then 6 weeks before my wedding, when I shouldn't be spending a cent, comes a deal on facebook too good to pass up.*

A Jodi Racco built 383ci. Its made 650+, and run 9s. Its cheap! And its literally 8kms down the road. It was this day I truly realised I was marrying the right one, because when I was fearing for my life to let her know I was going to have a look she told me if its cheap I better hurry up before its gone. Sure enough, old mates phone is blowing up the whole time im there, so I shook his hand.

This purchase has set the tone now. Its going to be long and expensive fixing the car up to match this diamond in the goat's asshole, but this is about building an 11 year old's poster car, and if nothing else im determined... aswell as retarded. I have since acquired a Coan racing TH350 and Final Drive Engineering BW diff, and Im hoping with some expert help I might be able to nudge this little boat anchor to 700hp.*

Work started a week ago, and is expected to be a couple of years before completion with normal working class money and time constraints (especially since baby boy #1 is expected very VERY soon), but I cant wait for the day she breathes into life in her final form. This is the bucket as it stands today, and every great journey starts with a single step.

A/C, P/S, and cruise all removed for the most part

Hope you enjoyed the read blokes, will do my best to keep this up to date even if its a while between progressions. I know im surrounded by people who have suffered the same struggle, haha! Let's see where this goes!

Don't mind the 1st gen Commodores, 650+ HP should get this motoring along nicely.

I think 70% is a bit generous, seems everytime I set foot in the shed there's something else to add to the list haha! Some days I wish I could bring myself to slap it together and send it but im pretty committed to a high quality finish. Sucker for punishment!

My first Son came along 8weeks ago.
It has taken 8weeks for me to almost complete a manifold swap.
Time in the garage is nigh on non-existent for a wee while longer it seems.

Keep up the progress updates. This is set to end well.

Congratulations bud! Hope its going well. A couple of mates with kids all giving me the same story haha. Just going to have to grab a cheeky hour here and there and slowly but surely each box will get ticked.

There's alot of potential here, and it gets me so excited when I think about it! Just need to fine tune the recipe to achieve the goal. 700hp isnt an easy feat but im confident it can get there.
