also make sure the blades are centered in the bore properly so they close as much as possible.

but yeah you would really want a small bit of transfer exposed or at least sitting on the very edge of it

Transfer slot exposure, or rather, the lack of...is not the be all,end all.
Mine has drilled plates and absolutely no transfer slot exposed, yet idle, off idle and throttle response is excellent.

Mine will idle fine and response is good. But being a manual and on light throttle it hunts and carryís on while driving due to not being on the transfer slot properly and or the throttle is bleeding too much air causing it to run too lean. Also when taking off you cant just roll the throttle on. You have to blip it to get her into to the main side or sheíll stall.

Check the rear transfer slot, the secondaries? You have to remove carb and do it from the bottom, unless you have a top adjuster..

I have top adjuster. Both throttles completely shut at the moment. Idle speed is adjusted off mixture screws. If I crack open idle screws it goes pear shaped.

If you open the primary slot to .020 what does it idle at?

What is the timing at that RPM? Do you have a curve or is it locked out

I suspect a vacuum leak... have a good look at the intake gaskets and the brake booster.

Mine still requires 3/4 turn on the idle screws, front and rear, and it has drilled pri plates.

16-1800. Then when you rev it. It takes ages to come back down.

If it was a air leak EH I would of thought this would happen all the time. As I said when throttle shut itís perfect. Been driving for months like that.

Up to 9 pages, not sure if this has been suggested. If vacuum is low due to cam size, PCV maybe open admitting a lot more air, acting like an air leak & possibly pulsating. This could explain t/blades almost closed. When this is the case, I modify the PCV to a fixed orifice size.

3/32" up to 400 cu in & 7/64" if more than 400 cu in.

Have you given the carby base a quick spray with degreaser any major changes in rpm indicate air air leaks , quick way to diagnose

Yeah I will when I get home.

GTO when I first fired it up I deleted PCV. Made no difference blocked or not.

Iíll do a quick leak check, then try blocking throttle holes. See how it goes.

I just donít want to mess with ifrís, air jets etc until I know the basics are right.

Crimp or remove the hose going to the booster see if it makes a difference
