I'd probably have 7 or 8 of these in the shed. However a HT-HG GTS350 manual Saginaw is a special box, it was modified for higher strength like the US L30 (327/275hp) Saginaw. The HT-HG GTS350 is the highest power engine anywhere in that size vehicle that a Saginaw was standard fitment in. In the USA anything with an L48 (base 4BBL 350) got a Muncie, even the LM1 350 (the limited (in the USA) engine we got here in auto HT-HG GTS350) was fitted with a Muncie as the peak torque was too high for a Saginaw.

You are right though, the bellhousing, clutch (unless fine spline Muncie) and even (almost. mods to reverse) the shifter will work for a Muncie. The difference though will be the crossmember, possibly the speedo cable and depending upon which Muncie you get the tailshaft.
Geez there are some people trying to cash in on eBay then. Saginaw, suit Monaro!! $2500, 3000. Rebuilt $3500. Lol.
Well at least I won’t feel guilty breaking it now. Lol

Yes, just like putting "may suit GTR, XU1, GTS etc" in Ebay auctions. A Monaro came standard with 161, 3spd crash box (or 3spd synchro in HT-HG), front drums and banjo diff. Any engine in a HK (not just Monaro) except for 161 was optional with probably the same Saginaw 4spd you have, and the same box was standard in a GTS327. A Saginaw was even standard in a HK commercial if you optioned a 4spd manual. Those sort of $ are highway robbery. If a HK V8 Saginaw came with all its original stuff like gearbox crossmember, bellhousing clutch slave bracket, tailshaft, shifter, floor brace and all bolts etc then it is a $2500 box. A bare box by itself is worth $500, all the accessories are far more valuable as they are unique, whereas the box is just any old Saginaw with a 3spd Saginaw tail housing. A properly rebuilt one might pull $1500.

Yeah pretty sure mine was out of a bench seat truck or something. The hurst bracket was this bent flat bar setup. Put the shifter forward and high. The commo I pulled it out of had the tunnel hacked open, no centre consol. You went for first and punched the stereo. You know, quality stuff.....

I have a Muncie here that was behind a 308 in a VK. It is complete, still has the shifter and Dellow bellhousing on it with shift rods still attached. If you ever want to go down this path, next time it is unburied I can get a photo for you of how the shifter is done. It didn't have any tunnel mods from memory, maybe a slight bump to clear the shift rods. I have kept this one to go behind the 427 in my GTS327, so I can make it all fit properly. It will eventually get busted by the 427 so I'll have a new HD one built ready for that.

Cheers. Yeah there are heaps of relevant adapters for muncies. I pretty much made a plate style that fits on the threaded holes right at the of the extension housing. Then bent the shifter into a S go centre it in the consol.

No I don’t think so. The way the shifter was originally mounted I’m thinking some kind of Chevelle or something. Who knows, it fits now.

A mate used to have Brock with 12.5:1 early headed 304,top loader 4.3 or shorter gears...was so much fun to drive & piss people off cruising it.

May not run as quick down the quarter but the smile an angry manual gives you is worth it if you don't get locked up haha

I haved a few combos- my favourite one

    Vk- director
    333 stroker b cast heads
    Top loader
    9 inch
    Indy hurst shifter

Dump 2nd ass swings to the left
Punch 3rd, punch the dash at the same time
Hope its engaded 3rd smile got it and wait for the swing around, nope made it.

Go for 4 - not enough. Slamming the brakes and locking up ran out of road.

    Few made it,

Brakes stink, clutch stink, tyre smoke, catch can full, oil all over the extractors.
    Battery loose wtf
    Fan touching the shroud.
    Brick air duct moved again

    Engine mount snapped again
Back to ( just off parramatta road ) closed down now.. smoker using a piston as an ash trey.

Do it all again, next week.

Oh the joys of a top loader.
