I would pull it up at 11.5-11.6 max with iron heads. Even with the 300A cam, it only takes a bad batch of fuel, or stinkin' hot weather to ruin your day.

With a zero deck height and 300A cam, the OP has reduced his odds substantially of detonation.

Im currently running the exact same setup as you're looking at turboman, 11.5-1 comp and 300a cam.
After quite a bit of dyno time the tuner found the timing to be safe at 28 deg timing to allow for any bad fuel to a point.
Definitely made a bit more power up around 30-31 deg but very borderline. This was after lots of runs and plug checking.
Im using 6 heatrange plugs on the street and was advised if i wanted to up the timing a bit for the strip a 7 range plug would be a safer option.
    Hope that helps, Chris.

this is great info,so you are running hq red head as well?what do they flow? what power did you make on the dyno and was it an engine dyno or chassis dyno.whats the rest of your combo like-intake manifold/gearbox/stall /carby etc?

Just in case you still want to know turboman, my combo is scat 355, forged pistons, h beam rods, harrop single plane, quickfuel 750, 6000rpm converter and th400.
Made 520fwhp and 290rwkw and has gone 128mph in a full street trim vh Commodore wagon on pulp.
But mine is vn headed so im guessing that the effects of the comp, timing etc will be different to hq heads.

Cant actually remember what thet were mate.
I know the tuner dropped the primaries down one size to 64, drilled the butterflies and was happy with the overall afrs.
Doesnt kill plugs anymore and runs well.
Next time im there ill find out.
