    Default Quadrajet Q's

Can people explain if a warped quadie can cause a rich condition at idle and if so where is the fuel leaking.

Also i have replaced the needle and seat but i have installed the needle clip though one of the holes in the hanger. Ive since learned this is incorrect but I am curious of what effect this will have other than the possibility of a stuck needle.

Quaddies do not tolerate incorrect fuel levels very well.. hence it is important to get the float needle to hang correctly
otherwise you end up with too much fuel (and it will flood).. or too little and acceleration/WOT suffers

and warped??? depend son where. Most warp on the top cover but also so do the throttle body and main body.
Even so, fuel leakage may not occur because of the warping. Fuel leaks generally occur out the 2 bottom plugs on the main body
Some use epoxy to reseal these... I peen them first and then use JBWELD

    Thanks smitty.

I have read of the top (air horn) warping and the creates an air leak that makes a whistling sound and from what i understand the plugs in the fuel wells can leak down making the engine hard to start, but when running it leaks so little that performance isnt affected. I thought I read about fuel being sucked into the intake by a warped main body but i cant find anything else to substantiate this.

blocked idle well tubes will make it sound like its flooding at idle

I havent had a chance to work on the carb but it is blowing a bit of smoke at idle and the idle speed adjustment can be wound fully out but the motor continues to run. I believe something is stopping the throttle from fully closing which is causing the motor to idle on the off-idle circuit. I was just curious what a warped carb would cause. Im reasonably confident it isnt the fast idle arm causing the throttle to remain open.

.. most Quaddies in Australia (except very early) have an idle stop motor/solenoid
on the side whose job is to hold the throttle open .. until you turn the ignition off

They are adjustable .. and are the final step in setting up a Quaddie
(and are different from the fast idle cam that works in cahoots with the choke)

Carby is a 74 model. No solenoids, just choke and fast idle cam.

.. well a worn throttle body/throttle blade is the most likely scenario
unless the fast idle cam and choke are not set up correctly which are other factors
    that can affect the idle

Make sure the secondaries are closed as well, but most likey as Smitty says.
Get the oil can out and if it sucks the oil in via the shaft you will know.
