    Default Early 308 head thread

got 4 sets of these heads we are doing at the moment in varying different forms plus some upcoming projects so may as well put them all in one location......these heads have all had some sort of port work previous to us doing a revamp and the finished product will vary in design and flow ranging from middle of the road to all out, they will all differ in one area or another due to the previous modifications and casting type and condition, 2 sets have 2.02/1.6 valves one set has 2.02/1.625 valves and the other set has 1.98/1.600 valves due to the fact i dont think the casting condition will allow a 2.02 valve, 3 sets are for solid roller applications and the other set is for a flat tappet application, they will all be modified differently due to previous modifications

will update this with more early projects in the future

heres a few shots of the 1st set im going to show, these are 2.02/1.625 valve using a large flat tappet cam

Nice topic Pete..... I believe not many pro porters want to invest the time into these early heads.
I'll certainly be watching with interest!

Will be watching with interest as well. There seems to be a lot more call for these heads as more purists revert to factory looking combos.

2 are going into 355 commodores with manuals both are sat night strip/strip cars, this set here with a 620 lift flat tappet and the other set is a solid roller
1 set with the 1.98 valves is going into a 330 stroker street/strip commodore with a solid roller 5k stall
1 set is going into a very nicely engineered 355 commodore circuit race car

    Definitely be watching this.

I have a set of B casts which will be getting the full treatment at some stage, they are fairly must still untouched at this stage

i flowed the intake with the 2.02 valves supplied by the customer and also with the ferrea intakes we use

this is with the ferrea valves we use

    comparison between the 2

    velocity profile

im also having some trouble with the EX side, due to the previous porter ( censored version ) who has done a great job of destroying the short side radius and under seat shape hence why we chose the 1.625 to try and correct these mistakes, its tubulent up to .500 lift then it takes off and jumps 30cfm @.550 you can hear it on the bench smooth out, ive tried 3 different valve shapes but still not happy and may require further machine and grinder work to smooth flow out but will consult owner 1st as this will take more time

for those who would rather see ole school hp potential rather than CFM numbers, these will be 3rd in flow out of the 2.02 heads but did surpass our goal on the 2nd time up on the bench, 1st test was down around 10cfm which wasnt quite what i was aiming for but i was also being careful due to pretty bad core shift

Love the quote, I'm assuming my heads are in there Pete? Not the cheapest way to make power, but for die-hard Holden fans there's something about a early headed underdog that is appealing to some.
Looking forward in getting them in my VK Commodore.
