^^^ lol, group hug for the big fella

is that HG an auto or manual?

Guy up here scored himself one of the few factory 308 4spd cars, red, numbers matching, although my hazy memory tells me it might have been a HK.

Was a pretty cool car either way.

got 1 hr in last night and another 1.5hrs before work thismorn, another guide fitted a seat cut and another bowl and runner roughed out....

these fast cut burrs TK put me on to are nasty....i mean real nasty, whilst big chunks are flying off and hitting your goggles it sorta reminds me of sitting in a car in a hailstorm, so i came up with the bright idea of wearing my fullface road bike helmet and it worked a treat, i tried the moto x goggles at 1st but i was still getting chips inside and there were fogging up bad

as you can see there burrs absolutely chew cast iron, you have to be carefull as you can remove a lot more than usual

i pulled out the alloy rods for a quick look before i rule the idea out, the GRP's are 6" and the other rods are 5.7 long, prob is i know the 6.00 GRP rods have done 45-50 passes but how much work the 5.7s have dont i dont know as there is no record on the box......almost certain im not going to go this way as either rod requires a custom piston.

not that this engine needs it but i have a couple of different oiling system mods i have wanted to test but wasnt keen on testing it on a customer engine, one is a slightly different version of the priority main oiling and the other 2 are just altered versions of the standard oil system.....may as well use this engine to test some other ideas i have floating around without having to spend any extra cash

still not sized yet and no water or pushrods holes so far but we still have a long way to go.

mate im not going to make that call yet as the combo is still undecided, a mate said to me i should buy one pair of crane roller lifters a fortnight and do the roller cam ( crane will sell individual pairs ), thats quite doable but thing is the cam and springs are going kill the budget

i do have some new pac roller springs kicking around which came off some AFR heads, they are 230lbs closed and 600 open but they wouldnt cut it if i was to use a manly roller cam....LOL

If it will fit what about doing a 2.1" intake valve and a 1.55" exhaust valve on it??

Would the exhaust seat be OK with a tiny valve in it as far as throat size goes??

2.1" will be too much on the early heads. sprinkler time.

Nope, throat is limited by the water jacket, to keep a decent throat % in it the largest practical valve is 2.02" - even that's pushing it a little.

When I do serious ones I use 2" 8mm stem valves.
I'm not on here much any more - don't bother PM'ing me, chances are I won't read it, just call me on 08 8376 9540 if you need to get hold of me or email knight28@optusnet.com.au, phone is better!

tk is on the money, the only way to gain any extra valve area is by reducing the stem diameter......there is water everywhere, its alomst a scary excersize from the word go and you can just about punch in to water by merely cutting the wrong seat profile when using the 2.02

If you want to make a drive to the sunny coast, got a 308 crank, suit 010 bearings, stand rods with pistons fitted, double row timing chain kit, unknown cam (still fitted in the block currently) and some bananas that are prob all gonna rust. If you need it, its yours.

what about the 1.55" exhaust valve though ??... I feel a 3" stroke deal is over exhaust valved with a 1.6 in it ...

yes of course pauly....1.55 is a option, These heads are a 1.50 std and plenty small enough throat to get a decent profile with 87-88% throat diameter

are you talking about throat velocity paul?

we can control valve velocity and curtain area with the camshaft in the lower lifts so i assume you are reffering to throat velocity above curtain area
