Default New Quadrajet problems on HJ 253

Ok I'll try and make this brief

A few days ago I fitted a new intake manifold and Rochester Quadrajet 4bl to my HJ 253. The carby was rebuilt approx 1000kms ago and has been recently pulled off a 308. The ute is now experiencing the following problems:
    - High idle, even with throttle cable removed.
    - Bogs when accelerating while driving.
    - VERY hard to accelerate without it bogging whilst driving.
    - Bogging over approx 2000rpm whilst driving (no tacho so thats a guesstimate)

So basicaly its undrivable. Suspecting a vaccuum leak this is what I have tried:
    - Tightened all manifold/ carby bolts.
    - Carb cleaner vaccuum test (suprisingly nothing)
    - Dissconnected/plugged everything. And I mean everything, even the break booster.
    - Breakbooster/vac advance is running off manifold, all thats left connected to the carby is the fuel line.

Now because of the high idle I would have thought it must be a vac leak, anyone got any other ideas? Or things to try. Its literally driving be insane!

    was the 308 standard?
was the 308 setup with any pollution connections to the Quaddie?
did you pull the dizzy for the manifold swap?
    is your 253 standard??

the 253 and 308 Quaddie idle circuits are the same so if it worked on the 308 well.....
the rest of the Quaddie setup for a 253 is DIFFERENT from the 308

No I didnt pull the dizzy, the manifold my mate had lying around and the carby came from a seperate car all together.

I took the ute for a limp arround the blok a moment ago. It runs, allbeit poorly at very light throttle and then seems to bog until the point where the secondaries start to open. After that , ie more accelerator it bogs down again.

Oh ill just add, the original 253 manifold was running the WW 2 barel that had been modified for dual fuel. The timing was slightly advanced because of the dual fuel.
I was going to reset the timing but I cant get the car to idle low enough to do so.

i bought a rebuilt one off a bloke to stick on 305 chev in my overlander, and it had similar problems to what you mention. i found the choke didnt change position correctly (even when i put an electric choke on it). there is a lever on the drivers side that moves and changes the choke, mine would get jammed, had to flick it out sometimes. maybe try adjusting this on yours. when mine got jammed, i couldnt move it unless i opened the throttle a little. i cant remember which direction is the normal run position (ie 12 or 3 oclock), but just move it to either extreme by hand and see what happens!

Oh I forgot to mention. The carby had a mechanical choke, but I removed it during my diagnostic frustration lol.
