have you got a part# for pistons and rods?
did you use low tension rings with this combo
could the crank rod piston package be lighter

im looking at doing this type of bottom end once my 323 get boring

Jason made the windage tray/scraper, it bolts directly to the pavtech girdle.

Rods are Eagle 6" H-beam with honda journals - part nu CRS6000H3D.
Pistons are SRP for a 3.875" stroke SBC with 6" rods - part nu. 144995 (.030").

You could get the assembly lighter if you used some nice I-beam rods - but no-one makes a decent price on with honda journal.
Going to SJ chev journals you should be able to get an I-beam rod that'll do the job, so you'd grab a LJ 355 crank & offset grind to 3.6" stroke to take SJ rods.

crank shaft rebuilders would make one with 3.6'' stroke?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they could even do a 3.6" stroke in LJ chev on their casting, but if not they can definately do it in SJ.

nah jas, i didnt take it down the 1/4. i was out for a drive with daniel and the engine crapped it in. I pulled it down and found that all the valves hit the pistons. and its the top end i paid someone to do. not happy. So next week when im on my week off work the heads will be getting checked out, i know it has at least 2 bent valves in one head. while its apart im going to stick some srp forgies in. thinking of getting a set of scat h beams as well, i'm not sure if the eagle i-beams will last as well as h-beams. engine it predicted to make peak power about 7k. Thoughts on rod choice?

that a bummer about the valves, youre not the first person to have that happened to him though, keep at it youlle sort it and it should make good power when its done.is it lj chev rods?.h beams will be heavier what bolts do you have in your i beams,do they have bushed small ends for floaters, what power are you chassing.

Crank is SJ 2.100"? it has eagle i beams, not bushed? its got press fit speed pro hypereutectic pistons at the moment. Rod bolts are ARP 8740. Hoping to make around 400rwhp, comp ratio at the moment is 10.9. Cam was dialled in 2 degrees advanced to bring peak rpm down around 6900 or 7k. similar combo with same cam etc in mates torana, similar driveline made 410rwhp. Was going to use same pistons but i'm not sure if i should now that they have taken hits from the valves.

7000 is a lot of rpm for pressed pins i think,tk?.tofly304 is my cousin from perth what do you think.if youre changing rods youlle need to rebalance so may aswell fit some forged piston for insurance.maybe a longer rod & shorter piston.

Yeah, pressed fit is pushing it at 7k, I'd go for a quality I-beam with bushed small end & cap screws, 6" long & some SRP's.

Jasons motor would have I-beams if they were available in the specs we needed - light is good, 7k rpm is fine on a good I-beam.
