    Default Where to get diff done ????

    Hi
    As the title suggests 9inch eaton custom axles suit HQ rear disc
    No aussie backyard machined axles .
    Most places only use off the shelf axles ...

    CDS in Adelaide
    John Taverna in Melb a lot dearer than above

    I`m impressed with both but small but important details not quite right .
    Although not willing to trade to lower quality just better fit for me .

    This applies to many quotes you would be surprised how many people don't listen .

    What places can people recommend either of above or somewhere different ???????

    There are any number of "diff makers" in Australia {including myself] most are good some are excellent, surely there is one in or near Nth Q that would do what you want

    Mainly the dilemma is axle manufacturing . In regards to quoting ,some will only give quotes on scribble pad ,some give quote on 5 words price and 9 inch etc , many try to sell u stuff u don't need or no name gear , some outright guess .
    I no , I'm not alone in receiving poor service but geeeez I'm getting stuffed around .

    Who makes custom axles ??? diff housing centre etc

    I am astounded at the personal biased unfounded opinions the diff places offer up . This may well be different to your needs >>> leads to WTF .

    Diff features I have had trouble with
    rear brakes don't use them use these upsell bS , WTF
    14 inch wheels ,,,15 inch only WTF
    axle quality welding on adapters WTF

    Basically everything that the diff builders have something to do with .

    Can some one confirm ,when u weld to an axle face [axle is already hardened ] ,the weld may eventually crack out correct = brittle ?????

    No disrespect intended but you sound like a pain in the arse and this may be affecting the quality of advice you receive from builders.

    It's a diff, not the space shuttle.

    What diff specs do you actually want, list it here.

    No pain here Ha Ha
    Just want a diff built
    Common comment is either vn commo rear disc [ why because they only use of the shelf axles cannot accommodate neck length which would be custom ]
    Run Willwood or commo VT/on rear disc 15 inch wheel doh !!!!

    The above leaves me with only 2-3 places in OZ.

    Last time I checked its not a good idea to weld to a hardened surface ???

    Offset diff pinion anyone ???

    So diff industry has a few issues

    I'm still slightly confused.

    Do you want a 9" built with centred pinion and the ability to use standard rear discs (which means custom axles) and you can't find anyone who will build it?

    Sedan or ute?

    Centred pinion would be nice . The only reason to do that is exhaust / muffler clearance to t/shaft .[desirable] Many places diffs will only do offset . THE REAL question is do u run into clearance problems from a 4 inch shaft to tunnel running ZERO offset ?????????. This also comes down to critical speed of tail shaft in regards to diameter . Bigger is best Above this vibration vibration occurs .

    Rear factory discs present an issue for most diff places . Neck to flange DISTANCE AROUND 48MM supposedly . Very short and off the shelf donot fit .
    Then we get to centre bore HZ run 13mm and WB run 26mm . To achieve this some want to weld custom hardened axles . I think this is a no no ??

    The resolution is to run 10mm pinion offset possibly ??


    Bolt on centre bore extensions , these might be-able to doweled or shrink fit .????
    After market axles can only come to certain sizing . I think bullshit to the industry . Has more to do with being in Ozzy [limited resources ] than the USA . Ozzy stores just want to use there stock and not make to suit geez actually make a custom axle !!!!!

    Cast Iron 355
    Phoned David Bos He was offering a different brake setup different diff set up . Pricing for billet axles was many more $$$ than others . He is up the list . Good info from him .

    Re centre bore /wheel locator
    Just rang Strange cannot weld to face of axle once hardened, cracking and failure results
    bolt on centre bore extension te only way

    Axle offset
    neck length /brake offset is not something they do so small eg 48mm
    cannot machine thru hardening it will be weakened
