Default Toyota Supra W57 Gearbox Behind A Mild Holden 308

Who's running this gearbox or something similar ?

What has people done to strengthen them, this car is only a weekend cruise with the occasional squirt down the drag strip.

    Cheers :-)

I've blown 3 of them with a 253. Not nearly as strong as some make out they are.

^^Yeh that's what I've heard. If you just cruise it might live.
    On the strip, doubt it.

Its would be 95% cruising and %5 on the strip.

What stuff can be done to the gearbox to strengthen more or would it not be worth the hassle and just to buy a stronger box straight up ?

    Cheers :-)

Slicks will kill it, just run your street tyres on the strip if its only for a bit of fun.

It gets a bit more expensive to find a stronger manual gearbox, especially if you want more than 4 forward gears. If you can justify it then just do it now and you won't regret it, otherwise just drive what you have with a little mechanical sympathy and it should last some time.
