Default Header bolts need peoples experience

    HI
Which type on a chev is easier to get to using 4 into 1 headers

Single hex head 5/16 3/8 thread
Impression is single hex can use ring and opened ender spanner .

    or
12 point head 5/16 3/8 thread ring end only

I `m under the impression the larger bolt 3/8 head would have a clearance issue [the spanner that is]

    Bolt length
    header plate 10mm
    gasket 2.5 mm
special lock washer 2.5mm [if it has side clearance] serrated teeth

=15mm so that leaves 10mm in head

    How does all that sound??

Hi mate. A couple of pipes are tight on mine. Try y. For me single hex works good on them. 2 cylinders from memory. Had to butcher some cheap spanners to get to them. Not the end of the world. 10mm sounds ok in the head.
    Have you thought of studs?

    Hi
All in parts at the moment .
I`m assuming u can`t install headers with studs . They might get in the way when either lowering into eng bay or installing from underneath. Headers in a HQ with aircon .
From my limited experience with 12 point is they donot tolerate misaligned spanners /sockets . No real great advantage IMO. That's why I am considering the hex head 5/16 .

Do u remember the bolt length .,should be 1 inch// 25mm long ???????. [there are 3/4 bolts also for thin header plates ??]

Ever have header bolts come loose ???? Many vehicles different brands suffer exhaust gasket leaks.

I have used these serrated lock washers b4 on a really worn out hole . Only items that kept the bolt tight .

Trying to put together a Jegs order

Yes an inch sounds about right for the bolt length. And yes usually went over them about once a month and did a quick nip up..i dont use any washers on them though..
