I agree hq308, I put some 215/60-15's on today and it is still very close.

Cool, keep us posted on how they work out.

How much does it change the look of the car?

Can't remember the name but yeah, some sort of blue.

Bought it from a copper, got pulled over by his mates for weeks after because they thought I'd knocked it off, the rest left me alone even if I was doing stupid shit because they assumed it was him lol.

There are some earlier posts regarding the engine configuration. Check out starting around post #32 - #49. If you remember, the motor is not realising its full potential just yet due to the inlet manifold. I want to drive it around a bit and get run in properly before I start searching for more horsepower. Some time soon, I plan to add a Torque Power manifold and that should wake it up a bit.

Thanks for the comment swampy. For the details, my mind is a bit hazy now because I got the wheels quite a few years ago so I had to look a few things up.
The wheels where from Summit Racing and I got them when the A$ was high. The back are 15x8 with 4.5" backspace and the fronts are 15x7 with 4" backspace. Maybe in hindsight I should have stuck with 4.5" for the front as well.

The rear springs are lowered 50mm.
For the front, I originally had Pedders lowered springs installed but then I put in 50mm drop stub axles which made everything too low. I replaced the lowered springs with standard height (but heavy duty) springs and now the ride height is about right

    Hi mate,
The HZ looks fantastic. I'm looking at the same wheels for my HQ when you say you should have went 4.5 offset on the front is that because they scrub on full lock?

    Cheers,

    HI
    Ditto above
Would the decision to go 4.5 B/space at front cure the rubbing problem then ??

    15 x 7 rims
It would seem 215 lowered with 4 inch BS
Maybe 225 lowered with 4,5 inch BS

Might have a chance at ...
I am trying to run 235/60/15 all round 15x7 standard height springs

    Cheers,
Cheers monaro maniac you are spot on. The problem when the springs are too low is that the tyre will hit the outer guard lip in some positions - its a bit hard to do a static check though, as the suspension changes geometry when going over a bump etc.

Hi swampy, there are also 4.25"BS available as well so that's another option. Running 4.5BS on the front might fix it but it may also mean that the inside of the tyre could hit the steering arm or sway bar.
When I get some time, I will swap my 15x8 4.5BS with 235/60/15 wheels from the back to the front and check the inside clearance for you.
Also, have a look at the pictures in my post #147. This had the 15x7 with 235/60/15 fitted to the front with a pedders spring. The sub axles were standard height but the springs were slightly lowered. These looked OK, but too high for my taste.

    Cheers.

Pic 147 shows a fair bit of clearance there vertically . You can definitely see the issues with side wall scrub you would have if the cars lowered to excess .
Be greatly appreciated if u could check [steering/s/bar] clearance when the rear tyre combo is installed on the front .

The main issue for me is full lock in reverse on an uneven surface, which in my case is mostly backing into my driveway.

Fitting the rear wheels to the front won't show you a lot, 8" with 4.5" backspace is same offset as 7" with 4" backspace. The tread will be in the same position as with the 7" wheel but because the extra width (1/2") on the outer side of the rim will let the sidewall "bag out" a little more so it will be more likely to scrub on the guard.

    I have 4.25 backspace with 215/60/15 tyres and 50mm lowered springs - no scrub.IMG_2308.jpg
