It's amazing what you can hide when you want to be a bodgy c!@t lol

It will be a full cab off rebuild, I'm in no hurry to get it back on the road as I am quite enjoying working on it. It will be a slow process as I work a 21/7 roster but that's ok. I also want to do as much of the work as possible just so I can say I did it. I like the protouring stance so that's the look I'm going to try and achieve.

    Chassis details are:
Smoothed off external chassis rails. All external holes to be welded up and smoothed over.
Cleaned up rear taillight section with recessed led lights
lowered leaf springs with home made caltracs
    braced, disc braked 9 inch
custom crossmember with exhuast cutouts and tailshaft loop

That lot will keep me busy for a while and then I will concentrate on front end.

Chassis is from a Pagewood assembled HQ ute or van. I'd turf the chassis and get a proper tonner one. Restore the new chassis and swapmit over. You'll get a good rolling chassis for $400.
Check yours for cracks or repairs around the rear welds for lower control mounts and also around shock tower welds.

Thanks HK I knew you would know what it was.

I've started on the chassis so I will be keeping it for now but will definitely check for cracks.

Ground the welds back ready for a skim of filler.

Smoothed it over with some filler and some undercoat.

Check with an Engineer before going to far with the chassis. That original bit you've modded is an integral part of a tonners ability to have a 2660kg GVW. As a ute/van chassis modded in that area it may have to be Engineered.

Yep I thought I would have to get an engineer as I want to replace the main crossmember with box section to include a tailshaft loop and exhuast cut outs.

Welded up towbar mount holes in the back section of the chassis.

When you run your hand along the chassis rails they are a little rippled so I decided to smooth them up before I give them a spray of undercoat. Once I do all the mods on the chassis I will be giving it a couple of coats of KBS.

Finally got down in the shed today and did a bit on the tonner. Just done a 5 week stint at work so there's been no time for any fun.

I decided I wanted to replace the hole ridden taillight member with a new piece of 100x75 and have flush fit LED strip lights.

Found some scrap 5mm plate and tacked it to some I beam and marked out how I wanted the lights.

Pity I don't have a milling machine at home would have been much quicker and neater. See what you think of my freehand skills First up I put a 23mm hole saw through the ends.

Run a 1mm cutting disc down the length to roughly give me the shape I was after.
